T61 GPU sudden death?

A friend of mine just dropped in yesterday with his old frankie (15,1", SHARP UXGA, safe date nvs140m undervolted to 0,95V), saying that the display won't turn up. Since it produced no beeping sounds I replaced it quickly with an old XGA I keep just for testing that I'm sure is 100% working. This is what I've got (pictures!):

I think I've seen something very similiar when my A31p died, and it seems it was VRAM problem.
I'd be happy to hear your thoughts.

Looks very much like a dying GPU, but to be absolutely sure, try another inverter, since they can "burn up" over time.
In my LED-mods the inverter-transformer has to be removed, because it overheats from non-use.
A ~10-year old inverter might also have reached the end of its useful life.

These photos are made after swapping the inverter as well - forgot to tell.

Yes, It does look like a VRAM issue, but there's the off-chance that it could be the system RAM. Try a different RAM stick?

I'm with this guy, that's definitely a memory problem.
