T61p starting automatically *VIDEO*

#1 Post by matn__ » Tue Apr 11, 2017 1:20 pm

Hello.

I recently bought damaged T61p only for LCD and I tried to turn it on. When I connected power, it auto started, then restarted and ThinkPad logo was visible. Do u have any ideas what can it be/can I do sth at home to repair it? I've made a video to show how it looks like. After start laptop runs fine, Windows 7 and drivers installed succesfully. Temperature is also good.

Check CMOS battery if it is plugged in and the date and time are correct even after a cold boot.

Also check if "Boot on AC power" is enabled in the BIOS.

Thank you for reply! There is no Boot on AC power option in BIOS, but connecting CMOS battery helped. Is it normal that t61p without backup batt starting automatically or is is damaged?

If the laptop forgets its CMOS settings it will go through a few power cycles to set things up. It does similar things when rebooting after a bios update. Under the circumstance of not having a CMOS battery, it is normal for it to start by itself upon receiving AC adapter.

Problem solved. After long time turned off, there is a one long, two short beeps, so GPU or MB is bad. After heating with hairdryer it starts normally.
Thank you for all your replies :).
