Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?

T60/T61 series specific matters only

Can I simply swap out the CPUs, assuming I apply Artic Silver 5 evenly to the cleaned CPU/heatsinks? Or will there be a problem with Windows? How about T7400?

Upgrading the CPU will generally not cause an issue--Windows will detect the new CPU and configure itself (you'll need a reboot though).

Unless
Your WIndows is a 64-bit version and you replaced the Core 2 Duo T5500 with a 32-bit processor like the Core Duo T2400.
Daily driver: X220 4291-P79 i5-2520M

In reserve: X61 T7500, X60 T2300
In pieces: X60s CS U1300 [board only], two retired but working X61Ts
RIP: 760XD 9546-U9E

Thanks.

Any issues concerning which CPU's to go to? The T7400 is core 2 duo, is faster than the T5600. Only costs $2-3 more. What if any issues are there in swapping CPUs in addition to:

1. Speed
2. Core 2 duo vs core duo (AFAIK, that's just the ability to run 64bit Windows in addition to 32bit Windows)
3. The cost of the CPU
4. Will they all work in T60s and T61s?

On a T60 you can only install 3GB RAM, so there's no point installing a 64-bit OS, it will not improve things.
T7200/T7400/T7600 are all Core 2 Duo, any one will do.
But most improvement will still come from a decent SSD.
None of the T60 CPUs will work in a T61.

Thanks for the clarifications. Well, I was considering swapping out the mobo in one of my T60s for a T61 mobo, but probably won't.

I'm thinking based on what you say that maybe there's no advantage in swapping the T2400 core duo CPU in the 2623D6U T60, since I'll be staying 32bit. Only advantage, I suppose, in upgrading the CPU, even the T5500 for another, is the added speed. Not sure I'd notice the difference given my usage, maybe, maybe not. I don't think I'm doing a lot of number crunching. :?:
