How can I tell which T6*s support long mode? I have a T61 which does and a T60 which doesn't.

Moderator edit: Modified thread-title into something more meaningful.

Let me guess, your T60 has a Core Duo processor.

Long mode is exclusive to x86-64 processors like the Core 2 Duo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_mode

This means you only need to upgrade the processor. T60's use Socket M CPUs like the Core 2 Duo T5600, T7200, T7400, and T7600.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

According to HDT it's a Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2300 @ 1.66G
X86_64 : No

Would this one be OK?

That's a Core Duo alright. https://ark.intel.com/products/27233/In ... 67-MHz-FSB
Yeah, that one will work.

Just make sure to update the BIOS to the latest one - which is 2.27 I believe - before you swap the CPU. Older BIOS versions may or may not support the Core 2 Duo CPU and the machine would boot to a blank screen in this set of circumstances.

Happy upgrading.
