14.1" T61 in T60 chassis Frankenpad

#1 Post by oeuvre » Tue Sep 12, 2017 11:22 am

Hi all,

A few weeks ago I bought a 14.1" T61 and 14.1" T60. The T60 was in great shape and the T61 was okay except for a couple of cracks on the rear vent. I decided to just swap the boards out and create a Frankenpad of sorts ( I know, screen wise not an upgrade and people usually go for the T60p 15" but moreso I wanted the better chassis + IBM logos on a T61). So here they are...

T61 - 14.1" SXGA+, T9300, 4GB, 500GB 7200RPM, NVS140M, Middleton BIOS, awaiting an Intel 5100 for wireless N

T60 - 14.1" SXGA+, T7200, 3GB, 80GB 5400RPM, ATI X1300

Good mobo-swap.
The T60 14.1" LCD is nicer than the askewed T61 screen.

Next time consider just swapping the lids, less work...

Thanks! I know I could've just swapped the lids but I wanted the non-cracked chassis for the T61 parts.

If you're really careful you should be able to swap the stickers inside the lid so the FrankenPad is correctly labeled as T61. That aside, I'd consider that a huge upgrade just based on looks; the T61's bezel is just plain ugly.

Keep in mind that all factory 4:3 t61 boards are subject to nVidia failure. If you like I can offer ways to prolong the life of these defective boards, but more important, can offer new NOS boards built long after this problem was fixed. If interested, send me a PM or check the marketplace.

Unfortunately the standard screen models were out of production before lenovo corrected this problem.
