A few T61 questions
So hello everyone im new here
I just bought this T61 and i have a few questions.
First of all i put a 120gb SATA 3 ssd in it, but i dont have middleton bios. Id like to ask how to install it. (since as of now it only supports sata 1 ?)
Also the fan has an annoying rattle sound (TRTRTRTRTRTRTR...) and id like to ask is spraying it with WD40 ok, or do i need to tighten it?
The right hinge is busted and probably needs to be replaced. When closing the laptop it bulges out and bends the plastic, and is overall quite unstable. I can probably replace those, but google says its quite hard and im not really experienced on working on computers Or can i just repair the current one? (can provide pictures)
The screen is a pretty crappy 1024x768 and im wondering is there a (cheap) upgrade to it?
The thing atm has 2gb of RAM and runs Windows 10 (shame no linux shame i know )
Thats about it. Thanks in advance

Re: A few T61 questions
Welcome to the Forum.
To make things easier for us, what is the TYPE on the label on the laptop's bottom? Looks like TYPE 6437-25U
Get the matching manual from the HMM link at the top of this page.
Download M's BIOS, burn a CD from the .ISO (part of the download), then install BIOS while a working battery and charger are installed.
Check if there is any junk in the fan, or if something is hanging in the fan opening (visible after removing palmrest and keyboard.
Do NOT use WD40, it stinks and does not help. Use sewing machine oil instead.
The hinge needs to be replaced. Part-no. and how-to in the HMM.
Depending on TYPE, there are several upgrades possible.
We need that TYPE!

Re: A few T61 questions
8895 is a 14.1" T61
CTO = Configured To Order, in other words, could be anything inside.
Underneath the TYPE is a line with PRODUCT ID, what's that? (if also 8895CTO, hard luck).
LCD upgrade only to SXGA+ (1400x1050).

Your machine as it left the factory:
You'll really enjoy it once you've moved away from W10 IMO...be it to W7 or a *nix of some kind.
Good luck.
Replace the hinge (PITA), swap the heatsink, upgrade to 4GB RAM, install Middleton's BIOS and the SSD that you already have set aside for it and enjoy.Based on 8895-CTO: T7500(2.2GHz), 2GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1024x768 LCD, Intel X3100, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, FPR, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32
