Motherboard & Heatsink Compatabilty

#1 Post by txnative3 » Fri Sep 15, 2017 5:48 pm

I have a T61 widescreen that has the nvidia quadro 140m chip...it went haywire the other day & actually used a blowdyrer to fix it for the moment..have a 41w1487 motherboard on the way ,now will a 42w2461 heatsink work with the motherboard that was ordered ? I know when I was inquiring about the motherboard ...was told needed a different heatsink ..instead of the original .Would appreciate any info. & from searching the net their is a difference in the two designs of the original heatsink & the one mentioned above.Do realize my "hairdyer" fix is limited before it happens again ....but using it at the moment...otherwise nothing wrong with the laptop &don't want to just trash it..first laptop or pc with a nvidia gpu ...have always had intel & never any issues.

You have an nVidia mobo now with discrete fan.
The mobo that's coming (14.1" widescreen) has an Intel GPU.
It can use the same discrete fan you have now.

The other way around would not work.

I now have a working laptop ..installed 41w1487 motherboard & was able to use the heatsink that came on the laptop ...just had to put in merom cpu or it gives a thermal error when booting ..installed latest middleton bios & was able to put in different cpu & wireless card.Needless to say Happy Camper.....no more nvidia to have to worry about.

Forgot to mention that Windows 10 & Linux both were reconized & neither one required anything for the system to get working ...keep windows 10 on one hdd & Linux on another.
