Frankenpad T60 Motherboard Choice
Hello, I have a thinkpad T60 14" non-widescreen. I want to replace my thinkpad's motherboard with a new motherboard that has ati grapics or nvidia graphics with 256mb of vram, another thing is the support for penryn cpus. I'm not sure which motherboard to pick, so I thought I would reach out to the thinkpad community for help. Thanks in advance!
Re: Frankenpad T60 Motherboard Choice
If you're insisting on 256MB of VRAM, you'll have to abandon the project altogether since there are no 14" planars with more than 128MB of VRAM within the T60/61 range.
Only T61/p boards will support Penryn CPUs, earlier units might require flashing of Middleton's BIOS with the old Merom CPU installed prior to installing the Penryn one. No *60 board supports Penryns.
Plenty of good info in this section of the forum, these matters have been discussed hundred of times, time to to some reading...
Good luck.

Re: Frankenpad T60 Motherboard Choice
Thanks for responding quickly, if there is no 256mb of vram I'll go with 128mb instead. What are the best motherboard choices for penryn cpu support and 128mb of vram.
Re: Frankenpad T60 Motherboard Choice
You may want to contact forum member TuuS, I believe that he's away for a couple of more weeks, but he has a stock of NOS Lenovo T61 motherboards with "safe" NVS140M GPUs. I've bought several in the past and was extremely pleased with the results.nightninja96 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2017 7:10 pmWhat are the best motherboard choices for penryn cpu support and 128mb of vram.

That's something that you'll have to discuss with him, but I believe he has an ad going in the Marketplace, you'll just have to go a few pages back.

Re: Frankenpad T60 Motherboard Choice
The 15.4" T61p motherboard has 256MB VRAM, QWERTY Andreas shows how he built the particular frankenpad you're interested in.
If you don't really want or need the 256MB VRAM 15.4" T61p (FX 570M) graphics power using a 14.1" motherboard is a much easier build, but even the 128MB VRAM 14.1" T61p (FX 570M) motherboard has about half the benchmarked performance and the 128MB VRAM 14.1" T61 (NVS 140M) is slower.
