Thinkpad T60 Motherboard Swap OK?
I have an IBM Thinkpad T60 14.1" non-widescreen and I want to upgrade my motherboard to a better on that has penryn support and a better gpu with little/no case modification.
Thanks in advance!
Is this a good choice: https://www.ebay.com/itm/42W9380-IBM-LE ... Sw9idZ5mVD

My new T61, X301 and HP Compaq NX32**?
They are out there, but I really HIGHLY doubt it was new.

Re: Thinkpad T60 Motherboard Swap OK?
Ignoring the fact that this motherboard isn't new, would this be a good motherboard for my thinkpad upgrade?
Re: Thinkpad T60 Motherboard Swap OK?
If I'm not mistaken, that's a planar with Intel integrated graphics, not nVidia. Presuming that you're OK with that fact, it should work fine.nightninja96 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2017 8:33 amIgnoring the fact that this motherboard isn't new, would this be a good motherboard for my thinkpad upgrade?

What exactly do you mean by thinkpad planar. I'm kind of new to this frankenpad thing.
Thanks

Re: Thinkpad T60 Motherboard Swap OK?
Will a 15" non-wide screen motherboard work in my 14" thinkpad? I am worried about this because I read something about 15" motherboards not working with 14" thinkpads due to the motherboard being physically obstructed and the 15" motherboard would output for 1 15" screen not 14".
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Thinkpad T60 Motherboard Swap OK?
The 15 and 14 nonwide boards are identical. The only difference is the 15" units have an interposer card to make up the difference inside the case, but just slides in to the board.

Re: Thinkpad T60 Motherboard Swap OK?
So do you all think that the board i mentioned before (https://www.ebay.com/itm/42W9380-IBM-LE ... Sw9idZ5mVD) would be a good choice for my project. My project is to mod the bios to support 8gb of ram, sata II speeds, and penryn cpus then I'm planning to install this cpu (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-2-E ... 2548.l4275) and add an ssd to the thinkpad.
Re: Thinkpad T60 Motherboard Swap OK?
You can't install an X9100 without a pinmod along with a different BIOS mod from one that is most commonly used (Middleton's).nightninja96 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2017 2:47 pmSo do you all think that the board i mentioned before (https://www.ebay.com/itm/42W9380-IBM-LE ... Re: Thinkpad T60 Motherboard Swap OK?
How difficult is it to perform the "pin mod" and how would I do it?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Thinkpad T60 Motherboard Swap OK?
Nightninja,
What the experts here are politely trying to say is that you are getting in Way over your head. I don't even want to mess with pinmods and I'm pretty adept. But if you want to try it, there are a couple of threads that go into great detail. You Cannot do this with just the Middleton BIOS, you need the higsun one ( think), and that's on a German language forum. Be prepared to toss out everything, especially if you mess up that pin mod.
You should not need a BIOS mod to take a T61 system board to 8GB, but the 4GB modules are quite pricey, more than double the cost of the same size but newer DDR3 modules.
And you want to put this all into a T60. Well, good luck and keep us posted.
