T6x 14" SXGA IPS
T6x 14" SXGA IPS
Hi Gang!
Were there ever any 14" 4:3 IPS SXGA (1400 x 1050) screens either initially produced or currently in production for this series? Anything new with LED backlighting?
I have a half-dozen 14" T60 and T61 units, all working, and I'd like to upgrade a couple of them to IPS if possible.
Any "Screen Gurus" here that could suggest a close alternative if true IPS is a no-go? No problem with cutting, hacking, soldering, Dremelling or other "unusual" techniques to get a screen to work !
Thanks in advance.
Regards.
Dave

Re: T6x 14" SXGA IPS
There were no 14" laptops available before 2013 with a drop-in replacement IPS panel.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Re: T6x 14" SXGA IPS
I believe I read a thread on here which stated there really aren't any "good" 14" panels ever available - just "average" ones. So any swap might not really be worth it.
Others can chime in.

I found, to my eyes, the 14" screens from a T60 or T61 to be better than newer non-IPS panels.

Re: T6x 14" SXGA IPS
Not the 14" SXGA+ (1400x1050) T60 I encountered once. I couldn't find a decent viewing angle at all: if I tilt the screen such that the center was perpendicular to my line of sight, the colors at bottom of the screen were already inverting. Unfortunately I was unable to check which panel it had.

Re: T6x 14" SXGA IPS
I havent had my T61 in years but I remember my T60p's panel being superior to the T61 though they were both SXGA+ 14"

Re: T6x 14" SXGA IPS
Agreed as well - but that's not saying much, as newer TN panels are horrendous. Some of the worst panels I have ever seen were like immediately post GFC cheap laptops - LED backlit TN.. just nasty as. Maybe really poor quality polarizers or immature LED tech.

Re: T6x 14" SXGA IPS
I have a TN panel on my 755C and it is gorgeous. Compared to my X230's IPS, it is a run for the money who has the better colors(the 755C is limited to 256 or 65K I think).

Re: T6x 14" SXGA IPS
the really bad screens are likely chinese knock-offs or generic replacements. I've seen some nice 14" screens on these models, but they still don't compare with 15" ips
