The Absolute Maxed-Out ThinkPad T60!?
I've been researching and reading about all sorts of mods that can be done to the ThinkPad T60. I'm currently in the process of turning my ThinkPad T60 into an absolute beast! What is your idea of a completely maxed-out ThinkPad T60?

Re: The Absolute Maxed-Out ThinkPad T60!?
Like RBS said, using native boards and hardware, a "T601 [for life(?)]" is probably as strong as it gets. Slightly improved graphics, 8GB RAM, some X9xxx extreme CPU, the 9-cell battery, and maybe even some elusive UXGA screen (there is another screen than the one I was thinking of, OK good) [edit: and LED IPS mod - this is also nice].nightninja96 wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 6:18 pmI've been researching and reading about all sorts of mods that can be done to the ThinkPad T60. Or you could go all out and do some serious modifications on a T70 (which is like a T60 but uses almost no native hardware nor firmware on the planar, so is it even a T60 anymore[?]). I think user 'wujstefan' would be your contact point for this - he's the only guy I've seen who is willing to cut his own metal(!) to make chassis and stability modifications.

T601FL = 15" 4:3 T60 chassis combined with 14.1" 4:3 T61 motherboard into a FrankenPad with UXGA screen with LED-mod.
Those HV150UX2-100 screens are available on eBay and I still do LED-mods.

Thanks for clarifying.

Add in a FSB-mod and fx570m w/native penryn support, and here's the ultimate.
I have recently sold one to a forum member. It's on its way to him already.

I'll be the devil's advocate and mention the QXGA panel.. xiph is working on a led mod for that, too.

Re: The Absolute Maxed-Out ThinkPad T60!?
The Hydis HV150UX2-100 are no longer poisonously priced like they have been for a few years. I bought 10 of these brand new screens (manufacture date June 2011, Korean build EHTH11... graded) in the original box (of 10) at $US75 each from Michaei of Flexloop Systems of Morton, Pennsylvania USA. Michael is an electrical engineer (old school) who builds systems incorporating LCD screens. I found him to be a knowledgeable, helpful and friendly guy. He tested each one for stuck/dead pixels and quality of backlighting before shipping. I suggest that anyone who wants these screens contact him via email on michael AT flexloop.com.
I also costed these screens new from "Shenzhen Jdparts Electronics Limted" who list themselves on Alibaba.com. They originally wanted $US210 each then revised that down to $US125 each. They (Howard Huang) were willing to do a price match of $US75 each for an order of 10 units. However, they refuse to do PayPal and insist on Telegraphic Transfer or Western Union of funds. Perhaps that could be done via an escrow agent.
It seems the days of these screens costing $US400 and upward are over although I still see suppliers (incuding some in China) who are still asking that sort of money. My screens are going into my stash of T60P laptops after I fix up the broken frames. Every single one of the original style frames is broken/cracked around the VGA connector or left hinge mount point. The revised frames are better in some ways but I have a broken one of that type also.

Blowing my own trumpet: those screens all need a LED-mod, such as I do, see my website: https://www.theboardroom.info/led_mods2.html

And Core 2 Quads in my opinion!
Re: The Absolute Maxed-Out ThinkPad T60!?
Absolutely the best screen I've ever used. And this is brought to you from a Dreamcolor 3 screen 8770w user. Too bad it's that expensive. I'd love to build around another frankie with this one. I even still have a couple of proper inverters and cablesRealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Thu Jul 26, 2018 1:17 pmBlowing my own trumpet: those screens all need a LED-mod, such as I do, see my website: https://www.theboardroom.info/led_mods2.html
Depends! I'm not a great fan of those; with X9100 still being on top.
Well that's interesting. Are you into sharing the contact to that guy? I'd love to get a couple of those. Still got 3 R61i's to finishThinkpad_enthusiast wrote: ↑Thu Jul 26, 2018 12:30 pmI bought 10 of these brand new screens (manufacture date June 2011, Korean build EHTH11... graded) in the original box (of 10) at $US75 each from Michaei of Flexloop Systems of Morton, Pennsylvania USA.

@wujstefan if you intend to order HV150UX2-100 from Flexloop Systems, let me know. I'd like to get one or two for myself aswell, so in such case we could share shipping costs.

I am quite happy to share his contact details. He does sell through Ebay but his preferred contact point is the email address that I put in my posting. RBS has added some extra details.
As for splitting up an order between different people: All I can suggest is that you talk with Michael. I found him to be a nice, knowledgeable and helpful guy to deal with. In my situation for shipping, the factory original box quantity from Hydis is 10 units and gives reasonable shipping protection but Michael at his own discretion, packed the Hydis box inside another box with cushioning protection between the boxes...just in case.

Slip an SSD in there and it will fly! Easy, sorta cheap and a yuuuge improvement.
