It was a pretty easy change.
The saving grace was that the white plastic part of the white housing that holds the reflector and CCFL bulb was broken at the edges, so I could remove the CCFL, reflector AND the plastic that came with it out in one piece so I could work on that part without disturbing the glass, vid screen and diffuser introducing dust into the layers. One side was broken so I just decided to go for broke and break the other side too so it was easily removable.
It made replacing the CCFL, and placing the wire into it's grooves very easy. Get a replacement CCFL with connectors pre attached. It makes it MUCH easier. The replacement part was within a 1/2mm of the original.
And the whole assembly was a very sturdy protective housing for the CCFL when putting it all back into the panel.
15 min job and not as exhausting as I thought it was going to be, but you do definitely have to be patient and meticulous.
I was with a t500 for awhile with a 1680 x 1050 panel. It was a better computer definitely, with a better screen and everything else, but the 4:3 format is definitely more efficient with how it displays info. I feel like I don't have to move my eyeballs around that much to get the same info. Everything feels like it's close to center view.
But this recent snafu has me realizing that the T60 is definitely a little long in the tooth.
Edit: Just put chrome into a ramdrive. Ok that's faster. But now if it's not on full screen brightnes, the inverter is buzzing. that's a bad inverter right?

My T60 is buzzing too when it's not on full brightness. It's not loud, but I have an SSD in my laptop, andodified Dan speeds, so the machine is completely silent, so I can definitely hear a buzz from the inverter as soon as I lower the brightness from maximum. I thought it was the case with every T60-T61 machines?

Re: Just replaced the CCFL on my T60 aaaand now a buzzing inverter.
Not sure if they buzz or not, but mine with the old inverter and the old pinking ccfl tube did not, or at least at a level below what the fan noise would have been. The noise is very loud.
I've read somewhere else that inverters and CCFLs should be changed at the same time.
I ran with a bad CCFL for a very long time, so I may have damaged my inverter by not replacing the CCFL.
