blue shade on a QXGA screen
blue shade on a QXGA screen
hi,
Yesterday did a successful flush of the rom on a QXGA screen for my t61 build. The screen is being detected and works normally except the fact that there is a blueish tint.
the photos are below (big pics):

https://photos.app.goo.gl/bpXJVJb9Ga6no91b7
the problem is not related to the electronics as the tint is present even when the lcd connector is not connected. I have also tried replacing the backlight with xga one, same result.
The only thing I haven't tried is replacing the inverter, but I don't think it is to blame. The lamp lights up normally with a white light. The problem seem to be in the lcd itself.
Hash anyone dealt with such issue? Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.
best,
V

Re: blue shade on a QXGA screen
I've seen that "blueish" hue on Hydis panels more than once, but not on an ID Tech. No wisdom to offer, you may just have to learn to live with it.
On a different note, is it my aging eyes or is that screen glossy ?

See if installing Middleton's BIOS helps.
And I agree with George, that screen must be glossy.

Re: blue shade on a QXGA screen
thanks for your input
yes it is glossy.
It does have Phoenix bios which is similar to Middleton with lower voltage on nvidia chip. But I don't see how the bios could affect blue tint as it appears even when screen is not connected and only light is connected. The only thing that might be possible to affect is the bulb itself but I have checked it is quite bright and white.

Check in BIOS -->Config-->Display-->Brightness
Is that set to normal or bright?

Off Topic: I've never seen a difference. What does it do?
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Re: blue shade on a QXGA screen
If it looks like that even when it's unconnected, then it's just the way the panel is designed.
You might be able to set up the color configuration of the monitor in your OS to counteract it to some extent by boosting the red and green.

Re: blue shade on a QXGA screen
"Normal" forces lower brightness on battery, no matter what the software settings are. "High" leaves the brightness at the same level.Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 25, 2018 9:04 amOff Topic: I've never seen a difference. What does it do?
The photos don't look all that abnormal. Some screens are bluer than others. I imagine it looks noticeably worse, and the camera does not capture the magnitude of the tint?vavet wrote: ↑Mon Jun 25, 2018 2:25 amYesterday did a successful flush of the rom on a QXGA screen for my t61 build. Re: blue shade on a QXGA screen
I tried changing screen to high brightness from bios, no difference.
Overall situation is not that bad, the blue tint (with static ripples) is visible only on dark bg. On light bg it is normal, almost invisible. Se photos below (big ones):

Nevertheless, I know myself, being a purist I won't cope with it and will go back to uxga. Will most probably put this screen up for sale after vacation. It is still very much usable and maybe someone will be able to fix it or use it as is.
