[Doubt] I found a very cheap T60 but the screen won't turn on

#1 Post by mrtaufner » Tue Jun 26, 2018 6:29 am

Should I buy it? It's just 10€

Everything sounds like working. But the screen won't turn on. Is it easy to replace? Could it be something else?

Can I swap parts with the T41 I have? At least I know I can swap the DVD drive (T60 is DVD burner and T41 is DVD reader)

It could the the screen, the LCD cable, blown backlight fuse on the system board, or even something else entirely.
Daily driver: X220 4291-C91 i7-2620M

Backup: X220 4291-P79 i5-2520M
Toy: X60F Core Solo U1300
In pieces: two retired but working X61Ts
RIP: 760XD 9546-U9E; X61 7676-A24; and a BOE-Hydis HV121P01-100 in failed SXGA+ mod

Is it worth it? I mean I'm not getting this pc for more than 10 bucks. How cheap are T60 displays? Can I put it to my T41 to find out if it's broken?

In the one of the worst cases (the motherboard is blown but display is OK) I could use a higher res display in my T41, I guess.

The problem with the T40 series is that there's a different cable for each resolution-- there's a cable for XGA, another for SXGA+ and yet another for UXGA. :O
If the T60's screen has the same size and resolution as your T41, then there's no problem.

Whether it's worth it or not, it's your call. I don't know the prices of Thinkpad parts in your area, or how common/rare they are. Better test it with an external monitor, to check whether it's working or not.

I see your point.

In Spain Thinkpads are scarce and expensive (even these old ones), so this one is really quite a deal. Let's see what I can do.

Do you know if T60 HDD is SATA or still PATA?
