T61p mSATA SSD compatibility
Would it be possible to fit a mSATA SSD or possibly even a PCI-E SSD into a T61p, Im tired of this 5400RPM Toshiba HDD as my boot drive and I would prefer if I used it as mass storage and a SSD for booting windows, but I dont think the Southbridge supports mSATA but I just want to verify if it works or not and if it doesnt support mSATA is there any alternative?

Re: T61p mSATA SSD compatibility
Instead of that HDD you can put in a regular 2.5" SSD (7 or 9.5 mm), or a 2.5" to mSATA adapter .
AFAIK no PCI-E in that machine.
Then get an Ultrabay-adapter to put your current HDD in, to replace the CD/DVD driver.

Re: T61p mSATA SSD compatibility
Is there an amazon or ebay link for these Ultrabay converters? most of the links im looking for are dead ends or unavailable....
Re: T61p mSATA SSD compatibility
There is no mSATA support in T61p.
Whats the point of installing mSATA SSD in place of regular 2,5inch SSD? weight saving? these will work at SATA-2 speeds anyway.

Re: T61p mSATA SSD compatibility
I wanted to go with mSATA because these ultrabay slim adapters are all discontinued and next to impossible to find on Ebay, Amazon, and even newegg, I read somewhere that someone got a mSATA SSD to work in a thinkpad X200 so i was kinda curious if i could get it to work on my T61p.

The 2.5" to mSATA adapter that I mentioned above go in the main HD bay.
They can accommodate mSATA drives, if you happen to have a spare one.
Otherwise what wujstefan said about 2.5" SATA applies.
And of course you should have Middleton's BIOS to get SATA II speed.

Re: T61p mSATA SSD compatibility
There are a few true mini-PCIe SSDs out there, but they're really expensive compared to mSATA. You also have to do your research to make sure they're not just mSATA adapters that are poorly labeled. Here's an example of one from Innodisk (1ME3 series), though: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Innodisk-64GB- ... 2981795440
At that price, unless you need >512GB of storage, you'd really be better off just getting a 2.5" SSD and using that for everything.

Re: T61p mSATA SSD compatibility
The X200 mSATA mod makes use of the SATA signals present in its docking connector. Unfortunately, there are no SATA signals on the T60/61 docking connector.Bready_To.Toast wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 4:12 pmI wanted to go with mSATA because these ultrabay slim adapters are all discontinued and next to impossible to find on Ebay, Amazon, and even newegg, I read somewhere that someone got a mSATA SSD to work in a thinkpad X200 so i was kinda curious if i could get it to work on my T61p.
