Recommend a Video Editor for Low Powered machines like our T60?

Does VirtualDub or VirtualDub2 suit your needs? I believe it is not too demanding for a slow Core 2 Duo.

I was thinking the same thing (about VirtualDub), but can be considered a full-fledged editor, or just a converter with some minor editing features?

I've certainly used VirtualDub on weaker machines (like a Pentium 4), and was happy with it. The UI is very light; the CPU speed merely determines how fast encoding works.

The problem is that older editors like Premiere CS6 no longer support latest footage from few years old cameras. The new editors like Davinci Resolve (gratis version and paid Studio version with more filters but they're the same) are very demanding. I was editing some 1080p footage on T540p and it complained on low video memory. T540p is an order of magnitude faster than T60p and it's barely good for simple 1080p editing in Resolve. Resolve works best on 8 core+ and while it works with 8GB memory on Windows and Linux it's 16GB minimum recommended.

There is also Kdenlive for Linux with beta Windows versions (KDE apps are available for Windows as well).

The Premiere CS6 worked even on T42p (don't know whether you upgraded your T60 to 64-bit CPU) but the T42p itself didn't have sustained cooling performance for long rendering. There is also Pinnacle Studio and Corel Videostudio.

Also check out this guide - I once needed to cut some video quickly on a fair on wifi so I downloaded few-meg free editor which was OK to cut the video, don't remember which one it was. It did support footage from new Olympus camera.

So your suggesting that he also makes his T60 into a Hackintosh? That's an interesting choice of direction ...

Not to mention if you do Hackintosh a T60, any modern Mac OS versions are out of the window. Even with a Core 2 duo T7200/T7400/T7600, it has no SSE4 support which is absolutely necessary for modern Mac OS versions to run.
For video editing, I did try the last Windows movie maker on T61 specs like a X9000 and NVS 140M, it ran fine there and edits fine too, just import processing took very long time, but then again I was importing 1080p footage

I realize this topic is old, but I wanted to tell you that if you are working with a low-powered machine, I recommend trying Shotcut. It's a handy video editor known for its flexibility and low system requirements. Although it may take some time to cache and convert source files to low-resolution files, Shortcuts performance on your machine should be quite decent. Since I have a mac, I use more powerful apps, and you may want to check out mac video editing. You might like them and want to invest in some powerful hardware.
