hibernation put strains on backup battery?

#1 Post by arabianights » Mon Aug 06, 2018 3:16 pm

a couple weeks ago my T60 started 1-3-3-1 beeps during startup, and i also had to press down power button to shutdown since neither sleep or shutdown from windows worked.

looking up manual and searching the forum i realized that i may need to replace backup battery. so over the weekend, i took out backup battery from my decommissioned t23 and put into T60 since they're of the same type. sure, the beeps are gone now and shutdown/sleep functions again.

my t60 was set to hibernate after idling for a while. the system created a 2GB hibernation file on the hard drive and used it to resume to previous state next time i powered up. i wonder whether this run out backup battery.

No, it does not. The backup battery stores nothing but the BIOS settings. The hibernation file is stored on the hard drive, as you said.
