Screen Issues on T601

#1 Post by nightninja96 » Tue Aug 14, 2018 6:12 pm

Hello, today I was using my T601 as usual and the screen turned purple-ish then got super pixelated, then it started flashing different colors and changed window sizes. The screen is made by Toshiba it is the 14.1" 1400x1050 model and the backlight is in great shape. The motherboard does have an 07 Nvidia Nvs 140m. I don't think the GPU is the problem because I plugged my T601 into a different monitor and didn't experience any problems with it. Does anyone know what the problem is?

It most likely is a failing GPU.

There are two separate output channels from the card: analog for the VGA and digital for the LCD/DVI. One can work well with the other one being completely shot.

Is there anyway to confirm it is the GPU?

If you have a dock and can utilize the DVI output, yes.

You could also connect the LCD assembly to a *known working* T6x motherboard and take it from there.

Good luck.

Start by gently pushing on the screen near the base, work around both sides to see if there is some sort of pressure or connection problem - see if the colors change or if it goes back to normal. In rare cases a screen can get tweaked slightly and exhibit similar behavior, but it does sound like your GPU could be the source problem here.
