My T61p just died this morning
Re: My T61p just died this morning
Dell D830 just arrived, but no luck. It is WUXGA display, but it's Samsung LTN154U-L06 inside. I'm so pee'd off now...
Re: My T61p just died this morning
And not only "ears" on top of the screen has to be removed, you have to remove inverter board holder as well, it's like 12-13cm of cutting. There's a really big chance of breaking the screen. Putting Dell back together, not worth it, would not advise this mod.

Check that screen again!
At least on the Sharp you can take the inverter off with 2 screws, and the leftover bottom eyelets are either taped on with metal-tape are else need very little "persuasion" to come off.
The upper ones need metal shears.
Never seen the Samsung variety.

Re: My T61p just died this morning
Inverter is attached by one screw only, other side slides into inverter holder, it's definitely Samsung inside. And inverter holder is riveted on 5 positions and more than 10cm long, it's impossible to cut it with sharp pliers and it would be very risky to do it with Dremel, because there will be to much heat that will damage the screen for sure.I will look for battery and hdd cover, it's not bad laptop for 20 EUR after all.

Look closely at the pix from this Sharp screen: https://www.ebay.com/itm/232934214636
This is the Samsung: https://www.ebay.com/itm/263175388336
Looks like its whole inverter+holder is attached using only 2 screws.

Re: My T61p just died this morning
Inverter holder is riveted, no screws, believe me. Five rivets all along the holder. Job too risky, and I end up with practically same display I've already had in T61p if it survives. If it was Sharp, I would take the risk, with this Samsung it just makes no sense. Maybe D820 is better choice for this mod, it's obvious that Dell used other WUXGA displays in D830 besides Sharp. And there is no way to check it unless you demount screen bezel. No seller will do that for me.
Re: My T61p just died this morning
Just to report that my T61p is back from the grave once again. It works flawlessly for last two days, and it got new WSXGA+ display from my old and broken HP nc8230. It's also Samsung (LTN154P1-L02) like poor WXGA I had, but it's way better than one I saw in similar T61p with WSXGA+ display and certainly better than WUXGA I previously had. Having in mind my fantastic R40 SXGA+ display as well, conclusion would be that not all Samsungs are bad
