T62 Frankenpad with UXGA
Basically, I'm looking to make the ultimate T62 frankenpad (T610, where 10 turns into binary 2). Not looking to run a T70 at the moment.
I want to use an SXGA+ or UXGA screen in my machine. At the moment I have an ATI T60 with 1024x768. What parts do I need?

It's a T60 14.1" 4:3. Bidding on another one with a SXGA+ screen

Re: T62 Frankenpad with UXGA
Bringing the system to the maximum specs that it can take will most definitely yield a very-hot-running unit in a 14" frame.TheForgottenKing wrote: ↑Sun Sep 30, 2018 11:48 amBasically, I'm looking to make the ultimate T62 frankenpad (T610, where 10 turns into binary 2).
SXGA+ is a direct fit. As for UXGA, that was never a factory option on a 14" ThinkPads, and finding a panel that fits will be quite challenging although it has been done by a couple of members here in the past. My recollection is that the picture quality of those 14" UXGA screens - that originated in Dells from that era I believe - left an awful lot to be desired, since the panel was TN and quite dim...I want to use an SXGA+ or UXGA screen in my machine. At the moment I have an ATI T60 with 1024x768. What parts do I need?
If a 14" SXGA+ is your cup of tea, just grab a T61 and mod it to your liking. That's what I would do anyway.

Re: T62 Frankenpad with UXGA
I also have one question regarding Frankenpad: are all T60 15" SXGA+ panels Flexview or not? I have opportunity to purchase 2007-VFM, but it's unclear for me what's inside and it's too far away from me to check it out. MTM says 15in 1400x1050 LCD, nothing else.

Yes.

Re: T62 Frankenpad with UXGA
Well then you should take your hit at 15". 14,1" is nice, but looses one of the most important things all frankenpads have: an IPS / AFFS screens.
Since AFFS UXGAs became available again, I'd rather suggest getting it inside 15" unit. I'm just building two of those (was able to source two nice nVidia boards; now using up one to build my own unit and one for another members' unit fix). These are fantastic machines.
Are you building an Intel or nVidia machine?
Ultimate would be with QXGA LED-modded, FSB-modded with quadcore QX9300 and safe-dated fx570m, but this is overkill for 14,1" size regarding temperatures
AFFS stock-led screen with nvs140m, either FSB-modded for X9100 or not for T9300/T9500/X9000 in 15" would do just fine (and be reasonable in terms of cost). As for the temps; the last batch of 14,1" T61p I've had maxed at 80C (fx570m, T7700) with amb of ~25C so definietely not bad. With the chip undervolted and T9300 (or P9600 even better post-FSB) it runs another 10C cooler.
I was hunting for knowledge and found there is also an option to build R500 intel board into R60 chassis. To my taste it buys another year or two to the frankies' life, and all that in one of the best 15" bodies ever produced. But, this is tricky I'd also make my hit to try the ATI version. Nerfed 3470m is not much better than X4500MHD, however...

Yep, taking my chances with a 15" T60 right now. Bought a QXGA display for $20 off taobao, hopefully didn't get scammed.

Probably didn't get scammed, but don't be surprised if the display comes in 5" smaller than you thought.TheForgottenKing wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 5:12 pmYep, taking my chances with a 15" T60 right now. Bought a QXGA display for $20 off taobao, hopefully didn't get scammed.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

$20 is a steal. $200 woud be something I'd be able to (hardly) believe. Let us informed if this one comes operational, and real.
