What WWAN cards will work in a T60p?

#1 Post by ko » Thu Oct 04, 2018 4:54 pm

I have two spare WWAN cards that I'd like to use in my T60p. However, when I installed both of them (including drivers) and insert my SIM card, it doesn't detect the SIM card at all. They are Ericsson F3507g and Dell DW5804 cards, which I tested and confirmed that they work. I'm using Zender's whitelisted BIOS, so they SHOULD also work in the T60p in theory. The same thing also happened with my old T60 motherboard however. Is there a list of working WWAN cards that I can pick from?
Currently running:

W541 (Daily driver)
X230 (Portable)
X61tv (X61t with a build-in TV tuner)
T500 (Workstation)

Was your T60p WWAN-equipped from the factory ? Is there a "bump" on the right hand side of the lid ?

No, but the new board I put in probably has the capability, as there's a connector for the SIM slot on it.

I added two more antennas in the lid (on the edges) so the card would pick up a signal.

Let's sat that's the case, for now.... What's the format of the actual WWAN card that you're trying to use, and in which slot do you have it installed ?

Both are full size mini PCIe cards, and are in Slot 2. Slot 1 is occupied by a Broadcom BCM4360-based Wi-Fi card.

Figured as much, but had to ask anyway.

Nevertheless, the only card that I've ever seen actually work in this generation of ThinkPads was the old Sierra Wireless one that they shipped with which is ancient by today's standards.

Wishing you the best of luck since I really have no solution to offer, and it seems that you've followed all the correct steps with nothing to show for it.

I've read elsewhere on the forum that covering pin 20 on the F3507g would make it work. I'll try that and report back.

Update: After taping pin 20 I got the F3507g to work!
