Bought a 15" 1400 x 1050 T60 with TN panel!!!
So I bought a 15 inch Thinkpad T60 quite some time ago, and finally got the time to check it out more thoroughly. It was advertised that it had a 1400 x 1050 panel in it, which was the main reason I bought it. I was 100% sure, that it will have a flexview panel, as I have never heard about TN panels in 15" T60s with this resoluton.
But to my huge surprise, it is definitely NOT an IPS panel. Even though the advertised SXGA+ resolution was correct, this is definitely a TN panel with not so glorious viewing angles and colours. I am quite disappointed, but at the same time the purchase happened too long ago now to do anything about it, and also not sure if it was fair to complain to the seller anyway, as he never mentioned that it's an IPS display, I just assumed it from the resolution.
Have any of you ever come across a similar machine?

Somebody swapped the display in the past for sure. It should be Flexview.
Re: Bought a 15" 1400 x 1050 T60 with TN panel!!!
My thoughts exactly. R60 was offered with a non-IPS 15" SXGA+ panel, which would have been much cheaper to swap in during the heyday of that generation.

... and such replacements were common in time. This is not the first nor fifth unit I've heard with such problem.

There wouldn't be any day of the week I wouldn't easily pay the difference to get FlexView.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

But the difference was huge. And the key buyer was corporate, not TP freakThinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 9:25 amThere wouldn't be any day of the week I wouldn't easily pay the difference to get FlexView.

So it's more common then I thought then. I learned the lesson, will have to specifically ask next time about IPS, if it comes to that.

Well I also happened to get myself a UXGA TN panel designed to work in T4x, R5x and T/R6x series. Not intended for any means, it advertised for a brand new replacement for T6xp series on eBay. It is brand new (LG/Philips branded) and works pretty good - but just not IPS.
Ended up shifting that screen from my main T43p computer to a R51 cable modded to accept UXGA screens.

Similar, but in brand new condition and isn't that old because the connector is at where the 15" T4x/R5x/T/R6x series have their connectors that is too high for a A22p's cable to reach
