Comparing T60 SSD to T61 Sata 2 SSD, not much improvement?
I have flashed the BIOS of my T601 Frankenpad with Highsun's SATA 2 enabled BIOS version. But after doing some tests with CrystalDisc, I have mixed results/ feelings. The only place where I see a real difference is in sequential read and write speeds. Here are the two pictures (first one is the Thinkpad T60, second is the T601 Frankie):
https://imgur.com/a/6H0tV5A
Here is some more info about the two systems:
T60: 240 Gb Kingston SSD (about two years old), Intel T7600 cpu (but underclocked to 2Ghz, so the same clockspeed as the T7600 in my T601), 3 Gb RAM
T61: 500 Gb Samsung 860 Evo SSD (brand new with freshly installed Windows), Intel T7300 (will be upgraded in the near future), 8 Gb RAM.
Both systems run Win 8.1 Professional. How come, that on that 4KiB Q8T8 write test the T601 is even slower than my T60??? The samsung SSD supposed to be a lot better than the Kingston (or so i thought), and the T60 has only SATA 1 speeds. Something is just not right here. Any ideas?

You should run both SSDs in both machines, to get a proper comparison.

Yes you should.
Having said that, the numbers you got for a T61 is pretty much max for SATA II. You'll only see those numbers with certain large files but not so much with smaller files. Another big advantage of a SSD vs HDD is the very low latency/seek time that a SSD provides. SSD vs SSD this advantage quickly disappears. Which is why a SSD in a T42 is still worth the upgrade even though that SSD is much faster in a T520.

Not sure how I could try out these SSDs in both systems, wouldn't it mess up my windows installations? I know I can use a given hdd/ ssd with installed windows on it in multiple laptops of the same type, but I always thought that you can't just move your hdd to a completely different system?
And I really don't want to go through the Windows installation process again, if that's how you meant I should try out both SSDs in both systems.
I know that some of those numbers look fine (like sequential read and write speeds), I am just surprised there there is such little improvement in random read/ write speeds between the two systems. And in one case the T61 is even slower. It just annoys me, as by every metric it is a better system, it should perform better in every scenario.

Stop wasting the time on these obsessions. One unexplained difference in a meaningless synthetic benchmark is not worth dwelling over.zoltan87 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 07, 2018 8:17 pmI know that some of those numbers look fine (like sequential read and write speeds), I am just surprised there there is such little improvement in random read/ write speeds between the two systems. Re: Comparing T60 SSD to T61 Sata 2 SSD, not much improvement?
Very true....I made an old XP Dell machine FLY with two very slow SATA I HDDs(from like '02) with a RAID controller over PCI(well under SATA I speed AFAIK).
I bet you that those SSDs make that machine fly and the unrecognized difference between the two through the benchmark is just a load of crap. If the machines both perform well, does it matter what some synthetic random number generator...I mean disk benchmark says?

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Fair point . What matters is, that the system is nice and responsive. I just have to somehow forget those benchmark numbers haha.
Human psyche is interesting. Same thing happens with cpu upgrades. Many of us is willing to pay two times as much money for like 20 - 30 percent performance gains. Makes no sense. Same with computer memory. I guess our species is just not very logical in general.
