T61p slimline DVD connector-2-SATA?

#1 Post by geos » Wed Feb 06, 2019 7:31 pm

hello,

I have some spare parts from my T61p including two DVD recorders. I also have mini-itx case which accepts slimline DVD recorder devices. I thought about placing one of mine into this case. Started looking for appropriate converter/adapter but I was surpised that the connector on the DVD recorder is different than mini IDE connectors, for which I found adapters easily, for example:

Is this Thinkpad DVD connector some propertiary thing from IBM/Lenovo? Is there a way to convert it to regular IDE or SATA?

I'm not sticked to this idea, just as a consequence of being surprised I just would like to know because I haven't found such adapter.

thank you,
geos

Its called Slim-IDE if I recall correctly and it is a standard interface that is pin compatible with standard IDE. You can plug any drive into there like a T61p disc drive and it will work no problems.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

this is strange. on "slim-ide" phrase google returns adapters like the one presented above, that doesn't match with Thinkpad's DVD connector. I have GSA-U10N, which is described as PATA drive. On the internet there are images that have differet connector than Thinkpad's DVD:

I looks like T-pads drive is connected through internal adapter like this (39T0482):

has anyone successfully adapted original Thinkpad's DVD drive into desktop PATA/SATA solutions?

The T61p's CD/DVD drives are IDE, but the connectors are non-standard. I've yet to see an adapter to convert it to a desktop IDE drive. There used to be an external USB enclosure for it, but I doubt if any are still available.
