T61 w/nvs + 2503dock + GPU = trouble!

#1 Post by wujstefan » Thu Feb 28, 2019 4:35 pm

Hello,

I have dusted my old 2503 dock I have bought some time ago for a song. It has been locked with no keys so worthless to its previous owner. I have unlocked it using old, good tested methods (6mm drill into 8mm drill ^^).

I have some couple of very nice GPUs that should run it... well, should.
R7 250 gives beeps (1long - 2short) on start.
Radeon 8570 does not beep - there's just displayed.

I have tried plugging the system to the dock while powered on. The system is running, it sees GPU, but nothing on external LCD.

As far as I know, 2503 dock should support GPUs up to 50W, and both actually are inside the limit. I'd try a 18W oldie GPU to just test the dock, but do you guys have any idea what's happening in there by any chance?

One of those cards is 65W and the other one is 50W. The only card I ever got working was a 7200GS and that's a <15W card.

Also I would have picked the lock before drilling it  .
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Maybe. I'll need to check the lower-power GPUs as well then.

Not my story really.
If drill did not help, next step would be a plasma burning gun ;)

Look on my webpage: https://www.theboardroom.info/parts1.html where I have a bunch of graphics cards for sale.
I'm sure a cheap shipping method can be arranged if interested.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (the Real Black Stuff). And pigs CAN fly!

I have checked HD6450 - 19W TDP - no effect. One long beep - two short beeps. Tested on T61 w/nVidia and T500 w/intel.

People report 7750 working on this dock. I have such card, but it does not work with it (it does, however, work well in M93p).
