eBay Score T61p Updated
eBay Score T61p Updated
I just got a T61p for $25 and shipping, complete with 2 chargers, from an eBay seller whom claimed to be the original owner whom bought it new in '08.
The seller said it just recently stopped working, no idea why. When I got it, the only outward damage was a broken corner on the palmrest, right side. Otherwise, aside from a bit of wear from use, it appeared to be in great shape. I power-tested and BIOS-boot tested it. Success both times, no problem. Inside, the only thing wrong was a mostly clogged heatsink, dusty fan, and dried paste. Cleaned that and put on new paste. It's now my daily-driver, with Middleton's BIOS + CTRL/FN Swap then highsun T61-BIOS(1.0)_ASPM_OC, Manjaro 18.0.4_stable MATE edition Linux and Windows 7 Pro, an SSD, p/n 45N8424/04Y2143, 128GB Samsung MZ7TD1280, 4GB DDR2-667 (2x2GB), and Intel Wireless-N 7260 w/BT4, p/n 04X6011. Writing this with it.
It appears to have the originally installed board, so it's a survivor...
The MTM is 6460-DVU. Date code is 08/05. It has a good FX570m board in, p/n 44C3931/42W3420, with C2D T9300. The codes on the GPU are G84-950-A2 and 0811A2. (The 11th week of 2008 (March 10th-16th).
*Update. So far, so good. It's running fine. The T9300 is now my spare and the X9100 is locked to 3.724GHz and the FX570m is OC'd to 540/1080/766 in Windows 7, using ThrottleStop and RivaTuner. I'm still figuring out the tools in Manjaro and once I have, I'll be shooting for similar levels there. Thank you to those whom have helped me here.
**Update 2. I had to revert to Middleton's from highsun's due to EIST_LOCK being enabled and to swap the X9100 for the T9300. Installed phc-intel, c2ctl, msr-tools, and Thinkfan. Now the T9300 is running at 2671/2537 and c2ctl reports FID 76 and VID 40 for both cores, with boost enabled. I tweaked nVidia-settings so it will stay at 475/1404/950 using this post (https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread. ... -how-tweak).
***Update 3. After using the script referenced in the Arch thread here (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=126444) and found here (https://github.com/davidbosman/scripts/ ... rvolt.bash), the T9300 is running at/near max at a VID of 25, or 1.1v.

Doesn't seem like it, the MTM states that it has a 1680x1050 display.MTM wrote:T9300(2.5GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 256MB nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro

Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Re: eBay Score T61p
Thank you. I appreciate it.
I'm planning to add the webcam option, using OE parts, from the HMM. And later, a larger-capacity OE SSD. It's a bit of an oddity, but I prefer using OE parts when upgrading. It just fits, if you see what I mean. I'm the same way with cars. Hot-rodded 318 using OE Mopar parts, not aftermarket.

Re: eBay Score T61p
No. It isn't. Had it had the WUXGA display installed, I'd have swapped in a WSXGA+, like I did with the other T61p I have. My eyes aren't as good as they once were, and 1680x1050 works best for me.

Re: eBay Score T61p
Nice find! I abused loved my T61p since I received it new in October of 2007, until I officially retired it in favor of the W520 I have in my sig. in early 2015. Aside from the well known GPU issue (which as many have said, with these being 11-12 years old now, that would be common with any system) they are fine machines indeed.

Re: eBay Score T61p
Thank you, too. I appreciate it. I agree. They are fine machines. My first laptop was a recycle-bin find T43 14.1" MTM 1871 with a bad screen. I forget the exact MTM, it's been so long. I replaced the screen, upgraded the CPU, RAM, and HDD, and installed Linux. A friend once gave me a nice G580 when she got a new Dell. It was an OK laptop but I didn't much like it, compared to the T500 MTM 2242-CTO I had at the time. Overall look and feel, 16:9 instead of 16:10, Chiclet keyboard, less robust... I found a Core i7-3610QM in a dead Asus motherboard in the recycle-bin, swapped it in in place of the i5-3210M, and sold it to the local compshop for $200.theterminator93 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 5:33 pmNice find!
