T60 & T61 wireless card not functioning
T60 & T61 wireless card not functioning
Both wireless cards are not working, tried the driver page and got nothing. Tried both Windows and Linux and I got nothing. On Ubuntu it says "Hardware Switch Disabled" but it is enabled in bios. Any help is appreciated.

There is also a wifi-switch on the outside of the laptop, up front on the right.
Plus there is Fn-F5 in Windows.

Thanks for your help, unfortunately I think my wifi card is dead in both, I tried both of the things you told me and neither did anything. Although the switch was set to off, got my hopes up honestly, it didn't help. I'll find some new cards, until then wifi dongle.RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2019 9:05 pmThere is also a wifi-switch on the outside of the laptop, up front on the right.

If you are running Windows, look in Device Manager for the wifi card. If you are running Linux, try lspci.
Re: T60 & T61 wireless card not functioning
I also have a T61, running XP. WiFi worked perfectly fine, until mid July. I have uninstalled ALL network devices, and re-installed them. The wired LAN works fine. But not the WiFi. I added a USB WiFi adapter, but it is not working either. I have even attempted to use the hotspot from 2 different devices to connect. No luck there. I restored the laptop back to a restore point in early July. No luck.
What the WiFi does: (I have 2 WiFi networks set-up) It starts with the preferred network, connects, gets the IP address, disconnects. Moves to the 2nd network. Repeats the same process. Goes back to #1, repeats, goes to #2, repeats, then stops.
I made sure everything is activated. Checked the BIOS. Including shutting off & on the WiFi switch on the front. (I didn't know it was there) Turning it off gave me exactly what I expected - NO networks found. Period)
I wonder if the security program I have installed has made changes to the drivers, or settings. I have pretty much concluded this is a software setting, somewhere, since it doesn't appear to be the router, or the card itself.
SO - my questions: 1- Does anyone have the default settings for the wireless internet card? I looked at the settings on my Win 7, for comparisons. It has enough difference that I wasn't sure about goofing with those settings. 2 - Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get this working?

Welcome to the forum!
It certainly does sound like a software issue. Which "security program" are you referring to ?

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. The only program on that laptop that receives updates is Avast, premium security version.

Re: T60 & T61 wireless card not functioning
Well, disable it and check whether you can connect to wi-fi then.

Re: T60 & T61 wireless card not functioning
I had disabled avast, but it didn't help. So, I fully uninstalled avast. Then I uninstalled the cards (in control panel, device manager), and did a hard re-boot. Allowed XP to install the cards. Connected to WiFi first try, and STAYED connected.
