CPU Issue?

Hello, I was using my T60p today and I noticed the CPU was pinned at 100%, so I downloaded CPU-Z and CoreTemp. I noticed that the CPU clock wasnt going above 997MHz. Both programs show this too. I even ran a benchmark and nothing changed. I checked all of the bios options and they are all set for the maximum performance. Heat shouldn't be a problem because I have a W500 heatsink installed and my system has the ATI V5200 and Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 (2.16GHz.) What is going on?

Do you have a working battery installed in the system ?

Check it out with Throttlestop - if you cannot set the higher multiplier manually, then it's most likely CPU.

Currently, I don’t have any battery in the system, but I’m running it off the stock charger... Throtlestop is saying the same thing. The only way I can get it up to stock frequency is with throttlestop’s multiplier tool.

Is your charger 65W? CPU will be locked to lowest multiplier if the charger is 65W and no battery is installed. With 90W it shouldn't be the case, although may happen specifically for T60p with the power-hungry GPU, not sure.

Ok that makes sense, I’ve got the 65 Watt charger.
Thanks for the help!

FYI, 65W was never "stock" with a T60p (or any discrete-GPU Thinkpad of that era). Lenovo always bundled these with 90W chargers.

However, the throttling on 65W PSU with no battery is present on all laptops of those generations, even low-power X-series.
