Dell screen for a T61
Dell screen for a T61
I have an upgraded T61 with Middleton BIOS, a T9500, and a nice 1680x1050 screen.
it's an excellent machine which I don't want to part with (or not yet) but it has one flaw. The screen is quite dim - too dim to use comfortably in daylight. At night it's fine.
I have been pondering whether to replace the bulb, but it's apparently not that easy. Then I spotted on Ebay an unused WUXGA (1920x1200) screen for a Dell Precision M65, and for a very reasonable price.
With only a few minutes to the end of the auction I decided to bid first and ask questions afterwards. So I am now the owner of this thing (or will be, when it arrives).
It appears to be physically the same as the screens in the T61 - dimensions, connector, etc.. So, will it work, or should I have kept my powder dry and my wallet closed?
It's a Samsung LTN154U2 - L03.
Any advice/opinions/rebukes/derision gratefully received.

From what I can see, you'd still need to cut off some mounting eyelets and the inverter.

If you had done a search on the forum first, you'd have found Sharp LQ154M1LW2A or LQ154M1LW02 screens.
Those are reportedly the best WUXGA replacement for 15.4" T60/T61/T500/W500/R500.

Thanks RBS. I'm glad to hear that after a bit of surgery it should work.RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 12:54 amFrom what I can see, you'd still need to cut off some mounting eyelets and the inverter.

I was aware that Sharp screens are highly regarded, but they seldom come up on UK Ebay. And, as I said, this screen wasn't expensive and I didn't want to miss a possible bargain.
Thanks for the link, which I shall read thoroughly. I have another T61 which could do with a higher-res screen, so perhaps one day it will get a Sharp.
Re: Dell screen for a T61
Well just asking on the forum works, really. I have a couple of them. All my 16:10 units that accepted the screen (on some models it simply won't work with it) have those SHARP displays. Better than LG panel from T61p, but not by that much. Brighter, definitely.
Too many thinkpads not enough time!

Re: Dell screen for a T61
Hi everyone,
I have a T61 15.4" widescreen display with 1280x800 standart display. The machine is in pristine condition and i would like to upgrade its panel to something simply better. I can buy a dead Dell latitude D820 with working 1680x1050 panel. I wonder if it would work with the T61 after cutting the eyelets. Would everything including the brightness adjustment work. Thanks !

Re: Dell screen for a T61
Yes, that will work, if you treat it the same as the above mentioned Sharp screens.

Re: Dell screen for a T61
I replaced the screen but the right hinge got stuck for i dont know why. Unfortunately, i didnt notice that it got stuck until i heard a painful cracking while trying to close the lid. Lcd roll cage bottom right corner gone forever. Upgrade done but screwed the pristine machine.
