Does Anybody Enjoy the WUXGA?

Hey guys,

I have a lot of T60p/T61p coming and they’re all 15.4” widescreen either WSXGA+ or WUXGA screens. Are these screens any good? I know the ultimate goal is a T61p motherboard in a T60 with UXGA IPS, but I was thinking of building at least 1 or 2 T61p with the best parts in the lot. I do like that the widescreen models have 256MB Nvidia Quadro FX 570M

too bad you can’t fit the T61p widescreen pcb in a T60 4:3 :(

Actually, you can. The DVD drive nor the HDD will fit, but some adapters to mSATA on both would allow you to run dual drives, glue in a face plate for the DVD slot and your good to go!

15.4" screens are generally very nice, even for TN panels. TN gets a bad rep because it is cheaper and quality is significantly reduced in the 14" segment which is more popular, causing more suffering. The best WUXGA screens for the T60 and T61 are the Sharp LQ154M1LW2A or LQ154M1LW02 used in older Dells. A wide selection of aftermarket panels also work. Myself, I've tested the LP154WU1-TLA2 (Glossy), LP154WU1-TLC1 (used in Alienware, incompatible with ATI chipset in T500), and LP154WU1-TLC2 (used by HP). For OEM screens, the LG displays are brighter and more vibrant than the Samsungs. WUXGA is what kept me on a T500 so long, until the FHD and QHD mods for T420,T420s,T430,T430s.

The one aspect where IPS outshines any TN panel - very important for me, may be completely marginal for many other people - is eye fatigue. Other than that, both factory LG and aftermarket Sharp WUXGA panels are fine. I find the LG to be warmer and Sharp to be more precise, so it all depends on one's preference but they're both good choices for 15.4" Thinkpads.

good to know the 15.4” WUXGA is decent! I look forward to checking out what screens will arrive in this lot :)

I would love a WUXGA screen but tracking one down for a reasonable price has been unfeasible lately. 16:10 is my preferred aspect ratio, I'm sad to see pretty much everything today is offered in exclusively 16:9

I just salvaged a samsung LTN154U1-L01 from a DELL D800 into my T61. Compared to my 1680x1050 panel, it looks so much better. Old panel was samsung as well.

Sharp prices are going ABSOLUTELY bananas/bonkers/crazy/through the roof/whatever!
Just now checked eBay with this: https://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_nkw=(lq ... 154m1lw02)
Search for: (lq154m1lw2a,lq154m1lw02)
Results:
UK: EURO 265.88 / $290.90 and up
GERMANY: EURO 524.99 / $574.39
ITALY: EURO 532.99 / $583.15
FRANCE: EURO 1,777.00 / $1,944.22
USA: none found

May I suggest to also search differently with this instead: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=de ... +lcd+wuxga
Search for: dell (d800,d810,d820) lcd wuxga
I guess there are more, and other brand laptops that also used this screen.
USA: EURO 22.85-68.55 / $25.00-75.00

Notice the ebay.ie in the first, and ebay.com in the second search

There is no problem sourcing them in Poland really. I think I have sourced some 5 or 6 of them to a fellow thinkpadder for the likes of $25 a piece. LG panels (and these are very good, Samsung are poor actually).
