T60 ThinkPad Audio Driver

For some reason there is a SoundMAX audio driver on my T60 ThinkPad, and it does not amplify the Sound enough.
It's gotten to the place where my earphones are no longer suitable, and I need to use an external audio-amp sometimes in order for me to hear what's on the Internet.
I have dried to install the Lenovo Audio driver without success because the SoundMAX driver is not where the Lenovo Audio driver is usually found.
On the loudness meter, no mater what I do the sound always stays down in the gutter.
Will installing the Lenovo Audio driver help move the Sound Level up the scale a bit? Or is that to much to hope for?

Have you installed the hotkey driver and tried the volume control buttons?

I am pretty sure you are aware of this, but I will mention it just in case: on the T60 both the Windows volume adjuster slider (on the tray close to the right corner) AND the volume level by the keyboard buttons have to be on max, to actually achieve the loudest output from the laptop.
I am not quite sure why it works this way, on the T61 with the physical buttons you actually change the Windows volume slider, so they are the same thing.
On the T60 however they are separate, so both have to be maxed out.
