T61 with brand new battery that died in a few months.

#1 Post by devinfriday » Mon Sep 12, 2022 7:00 am

Hi, i have putted together a T61 with a T9300 and 8Gb of DDR2 ram with a brand new compatible battery. This battery died a few months after first turn on, if unplugged from AC it did not power on and if it's on AC the notebook insta-turn off if disconnected from the wall outlet. The weird thing is HWMonitor reports 0% wear level and 103% of capacity, the same with BatteryInfoView. What has gone wrong with it?
Is the battery simple a piece of crap?

After a few tests i found that the battery is good, i have a spare one with less than 10% of charge that is reported as is from batteryinfoview, so this software is ok, it's the T61's fault, it won't power on only with battery, if i power on AC it starts, but if the AC fails the notebook insta-power off. Maybe some fuse blow up :(

TBH it's hard to say whether the issue is the laptop or the battery.
If you had another unit to test the battery on, it would be easier to narrow down the issue.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

Hi, you may have a faulty fuse, in your case it could be F12.

I have two T61s but different MTM so they are not compatible. Battery info reports that the battery is good.

Interesting, can you tell me if it is repairable or not?

To check if the fuse is good, it involves measuring the fuse resistance or the voltage on its terminals. To do this, you need a multimeter and know how to use it.

I have found a buyer for the T61, thanks anyway.
