After struggling for twenty minutes to reassemble the palmrest of a 15" t60, I realized that one of the metal sockets that the screws thread into was missing. The palmrest is otherwise in great shape and I am not looking forward to buying a new one, as parts for 15" T60's have become hard to find and annoyingly expensive. The plastic socket the threaded metal thing sits in is still there with no signs of breakage, so... I think all I need to get this laptop back together without tracking down yet another palmrest is one of those threaded metal things and the right glue.
What are those brass colored metal thingies that the screws thread into called, and where can I find ones of the correct size for t60 screws? Or should I just grit my teeth and buy a new palmrest?

Any palmrest or keyboard bezel of that era, like a 14.1"/15.4" T60/1.

Getting a parts donor system would be just as expensive as buying a brand new palmrest. I'm hoping it's possible to get these things separately, if I can just figure out what they're called and who sells them.

You just need even a broken part from a wide variety of machines, so your high blanket price estimate is wrong. Otherwise make do with an m2 nut.

I'll look into getting some nuts, thanks for the suggestion!

If you can't glue them, then inserting with a soldering iron (i.e heat insertion) sometimes works...
