Hi Everyone,

I just updated and reinstalled my T61 to RHEL 8.8
Note: Linux 9 didn't work - at least RHEL 9.3 didn't, bites the dust even before you get to choose the OS.
Also changed the nic card and went through the Middleton BIOS update.
All good so far but I'd like to also use my 28" Samsung HDMI monitor with it.
First question - any recommendations on cables? I'm assuming pretty much any standard HDMI to USB cable should work
Second - anyone try this with Linux?

USB 2 won't have enough bandwith for a good output with HDMI.

Indeed. The options are either a VGA-to-HDMI active converter, or a docking station, and then an HDMI-to-DVI adapter.

However, it depends on the resolution of the 28" monitor. If it is more than 1920x1200, then even from DVI a direct adapter won't work.

There's another option, though a bit excessive: external GPU setup either through the expresscard slot or the PCIe slot on the Advanced Dock (Type 2503).

The adapter worked like a charm - right out of the box.

Hey ap63 - good to read it worked for you - how do you rate the quality of the video ? I'm thinking of trying it to connect my T60 to my new 43" Qled TV

If a Linux install attempt fails on one PC I use another PC to install then swap the drive back so if you still want to try the latest version that's one way.
