T61 motherboard acting up

Hello,

i have a ThinkPad T61, specs:

Code: Select all

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T7100
GPU: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M
RAM: 2x2GB Crucial CT26664AC800.M16FH
Drive: Intenso 256GB "TOP" SSD
ODD: FRU 39T2829 / ASM 39T2828
MB: FRU 44C3933 with NVIDIA chip, previously 42W7866 with a Mobile Intel GMA X3100
I bought the 44C3933 because i wanted to upgrade, but this motherboard keeps acting up. When connected to the wall, it behaves normally, until i turn it on, where either:

A: blank screen, AC light and "Z" light on + ODD running if disk inserted

B: normal POST with normal screen, but crashes after some time

Is this a chipset problem? I still have my original motherboard that functions normally.

Thanks in advance

P.S. I posted this exact problem on Reddit, thought you guys could help

Sadly, that motherboard is on its death bed. Put the old one back in, or cross your fingers and see if you can get a different NVIDIA one that is still healthy.

Hi Glaurung-quena,

is it possible to switch a component, so i can use the dead board?

44C3933 is a 14.1" widescreen Penryn motherboard.
Check the date on the GPU and read this.
If it is that or newer, the GPU should be good.

Unless you yourself know how, or a have a friend (willing to work for free) who knows how to test and swap motherboard components, repairing a dying motherboard will cost far more than just getting a replacement.
