After studying this page, it appears that the new T60's incorporate somy type of LCD cover, similar to the Panel Protection System on HP's business line.

Does anyone have any information on this new "LCD Cover" or "Clear Plate Kit?"

Maybe this is why the light output on the 14.1" screen is so bad (150 nit).

What are you talking about? The LCD cover is simply the back and the frame of the LCD screen.

The clear plate is simply the area where the LED icons are - it does not cover the screen like I think you are thinking.

Snife is correct. I recently ordered a replacement 14.1" SXGA+ Hydis screen as well as the LCD Cover Kit and clear plate. The "cover kit" is simply the plastic bezel framing the LCD and the clear plate is the plastic strip that covers the power/hdd/wifi/sleep/etc LEDs.

thanks for your replies. I saw the T60 at CES and didn't notice any abnormalities but this depiction seemed to suggest otherwise. I'm glad to learn that the 'cover' is only the bezel and not some piece of plastic that would protect the actual LCD.
