I just noticed that ID Tech is no longer supplying 15" panels on the T60 series. SXGA+ is made by LG (I've seen two on the T43 and couldn't stand either one - very grainy and sparkeled), and the UXGA is now made by BOE Hydis, which has a very good track record, at least with the 14.1" SXGA+ panels on the T4x series.

I've got an 15" LG flexview on my T42 and love it. The colours are brighter and I have better saturation than my colleagues with different screens. They see a difference as well.

Yep, same here, T42, LG SXGA+ Flexview. No problems with graininess or similar things. In fact, it appears that on some earlier IDTech panels various problems were reported with shadowing and color issues. None of it is present on the LG. I do have some dead pixels, though. But that's a small problem.

colors and pictures are definitely superior on the LG FlexView, but I just found text to be less appealing on the LG.

Looks overblown, and too saturated to be natural from those pictures, IMO. (Viewed on a triniton CRT with a 9300k color temp). But those kind of side by side comparisons is a dangerous way to compare.
What do you think is less appealing about the text on the LG?

Myself: Have an IDtech panel from somewhere in early 2005, shadowing appear. not grainy. At least not compared to other non-IBM laptops with another 15" SXGA+ panel. I'm very surprised at the color rendering of the IPS panel, red is for example not saturated over a large range like on most triniton CRTs, yellow/sand colors is rendered fine whereas i have seen it to be completely washed out on other screens. Would like to see an LG in real life, sounds promising.

there is some of the 'sparkle' effect that I've seen on many WSXGA+ panels from HP and Dell - it literally looks as if there are tens of thousands of tiny crystals embedded in the display. it's particularly noticeable when displaying a white background, which makes text more difficult to read.

blacks are very black (contrast is good) but it's just not for me.

AFAIK the IDTech fab (a formerly merger of the Chi Mei Group and IBM Japan) has in the meantime been sold to Sony, so it is unlikely that we will see in future much TFT-panels from IDTech supplied in Thinkpads.

Actually I don't know if those two listed T60 model versions will really have 14" SXGA+ FlexView TFT-panels supplied, or if it is more a copy/paste typo on the Lenovo website. - At least it would be fine to have the option to choose from some selected 14" T60 model with a overall better TFT panel.

However, we will have to wait and see...

nothing in the tabook suggests that the T60 will have any 14" IPS Flexview panels, so I'm almost certain that it is a typo.
