Hi there
It is my first posting. My name is Elio and I live in Switzerland. As all student of the University of Zurich we have the chance to buy Thinkpads at very good prices and so I bought my T40p in Nov 2003.
My father wants to buy also a Laptop and I said to him to buy a Thinkpad. In this case we can use my Dock II and the 17" monitor together.
With the new T60 I ask me now if it is compatiple with the Dock II and if it have also UltraBay Slim Drive.
Thanks for answering
Elio

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums
I don't know about the Dock, most likely not. There is actually a new drive for it that came out on the IBM/Lenovo website, it appears as if the new Ultrabay works in both the T60/p and the T4X Series Thinkpads...It just has a flat bezel instead of the classic T4X Ultrabay Bezel.

won't work with the T4* docks - the new docks are nicer though.

So, just to be sure, will my T42 ultrabay slim battery work in either the T60 or the Z60t?

Sorry the battery is the exception to the rule.
The T60 will accept previous UltraBaySlim Optical Drives/Second HDD adapter but it contains a new battery connector so there will be a new UltraBaySlim Battery for all the 60 machines.

So the Parallel ATA HDD adapter will work fine?
I want to make sure without frying a hard drive to find out. Seems like it would since the optical devices are IDE based too, but finding out the battery is slightly different has me worried again.
Also what about the t60 batteries and the ThinkPad Multiple Battery Charger II, are those compatabile?

The hdd adapter will work fine, although there will also be a new one to cope with SATA drives.
The old battery chargers will not work as both the internal and ultrabay batteries use a new connector - again there is a new battery charger (which is thankfully more compact) to cover the new batteries for all the 60 machines.

Thanks for the answer.
Does anyone know why the change in batteries? Has the technology changed and it became too cumbersome to keep the old one?
This is slightly annoying as I have just bought an extra sticking out battery+ultrabay slim battery.

The new batteries have a higher voltage. this is also why the chargers are new ones with 20v output instead of the old 16v ones.
