T60 models in Australia

Does anyone have clues as to when the entire T60 range might be available in Australia? Currently the website only has one model available, 1951-44M.

I'm really hanging out for one with X1400 and SXGA+...

From my experience, the entire range will never be available in Australia. Only a few select models make it to our shores.

Your best bet (and what I did) is to find a model you want from the TABOOK and drop an email to Bill Morrow, the provider of this forum (put the word "thinkpad" in the subject). He can probably do you a great deal.

Cheers,
Rob.

You should probably be able to get at least the Global models as they're meant for world wide distribution in order to support multinational companies.

Best regards,

Thanks for the advice, guys -- I had no idea you could buy thinkpads through this forum.

I'll give that a shot and see how I go...

I'm going to study in Australia, but I just bought a T43.

Nonetheless, if I've to buy a new one, T60 for instance, I will buy it in HK from someone who can offer me a parallel imported product. Not only for its low price, but also for its various selection.

I heard from my friend that the notebooks in Australia are expensive before.

You are definitely correct on that count. Thinkpad prices in Australia are just stupid compared to elsewhere.

T43p, 2GHz, 1GB RAM, 15" UXGA, FireGL V3200

US price = US$2599 (~AU$3519)
AU price = AU$6599

*sigh*

That's insane! Even here, in Romania, the same laptop is ~3100 USD.

I was thinking to myself this afternoon that it would actually be cheaper for me to fly to the US (costs ~AU$2000), buy it, come back and pay the import taxes.

Haha... And I just noticed that the Aus. T43p I quoted is only SXGA+...

Heh, I forgot to mention: the average _net_ salary per month in Romania is ~280 USD ; the purchasing power parity (PPP) would be about ~620 USD. There are many salaries around 500-1000 USD here, in Bucharest, but even at that insane price in Australia, it will be cheaper for you :)

Well, not even a week after I said something, some new T60s have appeared on the Lenovo AU website.

Still none with SXGA+, only a lone T60p with UXGA selling for the princely sum of AU$6599.

Oh well, it's a start.
