T60p, Lenovo return policy?

#1 Post by Mandrake » Thu Feb 09, 2006 10:16 am

Hello all, I've been lurking here for a while. I am a big Dell/Compaq/HP user and as soon as the T60p was introduced I've been considering switching to Lenovo. I am a little gun-shy because I have worked with many IBM servers like the Netfinity series and X series and I've always thought the HP Proliant series was a much more reliable server.

I've never actually worked with a Thinkpad notebook but owners that I know love them. Does anyone know what the return policy is if I don't like it? 3K is a lot to spend not knowing what I'm going to get. What about cancellation policy? If it takes too long to get it (I've heard 2-3 month horror stories) I'd want to cancel the order.

I did some searches on Lenovo's website and here but I could not find anything. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks.
Dan

Lenovo policy is similar to Dell's (unless they've recently changed them):

30 days Satisfaction policy. You can return it for any reason but you will be responsible for the shipping charges.

I was a big Dell Inspiron/Latitude user but saw Dell's quality start going down the tubes and started using Thinkpads (I was already using them at work - government).

You can cancel the order as long as it doesn't ship. Keep in mind that you should EXPECT delays with bleeding new technology like the T60 series. How about a nice T43p?

:D :D

Dan,

I just ordered a T60 this morning and the Lenovo rep said they are due to arrive in the US on Feb.15. He said mine should show up at my door before Feb. 25. Please note, however, that this is for a preconfigured model. All bets are off if you go Configured-To-Order (CTO).

The return policy is 30 days, and works like a charm...I should know, I recently returned two machines.

In my experience Lenovo Customer Service is nothing short of outstanding.

Hopefully the T60 will be just as good. :D

Thanks for the info. This really makes me want to order one now if I can return it in 30 days and only losing out on shipping charges. I wanted to order the T60p-2623DDU but add more ram. Would that slow down shipping? Which T60 did you order?

Dan,

I would suggest ordering the extra RAM separately. Otherwise you could see a delay.

Popping in more memory looks easy on Thinkpad although I have never done this.

I got the 2007-5BU

T2400/15" TFT /1GB RAM/60GB,7200RPM HD/Flexview

Cheers...John

I have no problem doing the technical work myself. It's just more convenient getting everything at once.

Thanks again for the help.

Yours arriving date is so early. I ordered 200766U on Feb 4. The estimated shipping date is Mar. 13. Is your model a think express model? Thank you.

Dan, what I did was order the memory at the same time as the T60, but put it on a separate invoice so that Lenovo does not have to install it. (This is the advice I got from the Lenovo rep). The machine and the memory should arrive in different packages, in other words.

bibo, I don't know what the Express program is. AFAIK there isn't anything special with my order other than the machine is one of Lenovo's published preconfigured models.

There are no guarantees, BTW, on the Feb.25 delivery date. It might be a load of hooey...

...sorta like the numbers that I have seen on battery life for Core-Duo systems.

We shall see.

ThinkPad memory is a breeze to install. One screw normally removes the little access cover.

Yes, but the info is conflicting.

The Lenovo rep said by 2/25 on the phone but the estimates on the Lenovo site under my order status say 3/26.

Something in between then? Dunno...

The 2-25 date is the "keep the customer happy" date and the 3-26 date is the "CYA" date. I suspect it would be somewhere in between those dates.

Well, your not comparing apples to apples.

HP/Compaq servers are pretty much tops. But on the same hand, their consumer products (laptops and desktops) of recent are pretty much crap.

IBM servers are fair to good, desktops are crap, and laptops are supreme.

This is one of those cases that you cant buy a product because of the name on it. You need to buy the product on its individual reputation.

Even though im not happy with Lenovo taking the thinkpad line over, they are still on top.

Mandrake: nope...not expecting it any time soon either.

Geesus, I really hurt myself the other day by dropping by the Apple store and taking a MBP for a 1-hour spin.

Chalk to cheese I'm afraid.... :(

I just ordered mine this morning (2623DDU). I'll assume I won't see it until April.
