MG.
So you have a unit already? Is this pre-production or off the assembly line? I think you're about to get hit with a flood of questions. :D

Well, not always for gaming. Note that the UXGA (1600x1200) 15 inch panel is not an option with the non-p versions. So if you want UXGA, you have to get a p-model. Or order the UXGA or QXGA (2048x1536) panel as an FRU add-on and perform the surgury yourself. I considered the p version solely for this reason. But given the cost differential (ca.$500) I got a 14 inch T43 (1400x1050) and not the 15 inch T43p.

I don't game and I don't use 3D apps. but I do really want UXGA. (actually I would have liked QXGA). My next Thinkpad will be QXGA.

My $0.02.

Have people done that? Put other lcds in their Thinkpads? It would be nice to be able to have an ips lcd in a 14.1" Thinkpad.

I've been looking all over for an 14.1" SXGA+ IPS panel and have yet to find one. the brightest seems to be from TMD (toshiba M a t s u s h i t a) since it's rated at 180 nits, but it's still not IPS.

if you find one please let me know (note that the Lenovo site has several typos regarding 14" IPS panels).

you can throw other panels in there, say a sxga instead of a xga... i did that one myself. It HAS to be an IBM LCD though, the cables and such are specific to whatever model it is meant for... you cant just throw a dell LCD in a TP.

QXGA on a 14.1" That is a bit much; I would top out at UXGA before I get difficulty in seeing normal, 12 point, text on a 14.1" Screen.

An IPS panel would be very nice, though. :)

So if, say, TMD hypothetically some day makes a different 14.1" panel that Lenovo doesn't use, I can't get the TMD panel and put the Lenovo cables on it?

Most place i read that the 14.1" screen has 16.7M color reproduction which is 8 bits AKA an IPS panel. Not the same as "flexview", but still IPS.
Was this 16.7M an error ?
