T60p 2Ghz or 2.16Ghz?
Hello,
I am about to replace my R50P with T60P. But I can't decided which model I should buy. Right now T60p 2623-DDU 2Ghz is available to order. The top of the line like 2007-94U 2.16Ghz is not yet avaialble. Both are exactly identical except the CPU speed. Does 160Mhz make any noticible difference? Should I go ahead and order 2623-DDU?
THank you

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums
160MHz? That isn't much of a difference; sure, it is a bigger difference on a dual core than a single core CPU..But still not that much, you might not even notice it depending on what you are doing. A memory upgrade would be far more tangible and at less of a cost.

ss2,
Actually, my understanding is all of the T60 models are equally available. I just ordered a 2007-62U out of the tabook by phoning it in today. The representative, who said he's a senior representative and been around a while, told me that the express models aren't shipping any sooner than anything else. So I don't think whether or not it appears on the website has anything to do with actual availability. Also, he said he doubted anything would ship sooner than 6 weeks but should definitely ship by 8 weeks.
Personally I wouldn't quibble about the differences in clock speed. You're talking about an 8% speed bump in the 2.16ghz over the 2.00ghz. Do you really think you'll notice that difference? Even with the 1.83ghz chip, the 2.16ghz processor is only 18% faster. I bet that's barely perceptible to most people. For me, it doesn't make much of a difference until you start talking something that's 50% or even really 100% faster (i.e. twice as fast).

I got one of those discounts. No one offered it to me when I phoned in. But I told them that I'd heard of someone else getting a significant discount and then the representative said he could offer me a "first time buyer" discount, since I didn't already have an account with Lenovo. So be sure to ask!darrenf wrote: FYI: posters in another thread are getting $550 to $600 discount when phoning their orders in.Yet another reason to phone it in.

I just placed an order over the phone. I ordered 2007-94U. The Sales Rep told me the price is $3849.
I mentioned about the big discount for the first time customer. She told me that they do not have First time customer discount, but she can offer me other discount. Then she told me the price is now $3079. WOW, that is $770 discount!!!!!
The final price including Tax and shipping comes to $3347. That is really good deal. I would not get this if I ordered through the web.
Thanks you for your advises.
btw, when you order over the phone, how long does it take to receive confirmation email?

overpriced
I think those big discounts are probably only given to very high end models which are already overpriced to begin with.

Probably the equivalent of the employee price or something like that but still great for the folks who got them, congrats on the price and machine!

I think that is a high end model which for that price seems consistent with pricing for other T series high end models when they were first introduced IMHO.ss2 wrote:I just placed an order over the phone. I ordered 2007-94U. The Sales Rep told me the price is $3849.

Yeah, the 2007-94U is the most loaded model you can get.
2.16Mhz Core Duo
1GB ram
15" UXGA
256MB FireGL V5200
100G 7200rpm drive
DVD RW
Verizon WWAN
You always pay a huge premium for the top processor speed. And for the top graphics card. And the top everything else.
Drop down to a 2.00Mhz processor and the X1400 128Mb graphics card and SXGA+ display, and it's almost $1000 less. Get into the 1.83Mhz processor and X1300 64mb graphics card and the system is around $2400. Switch over to a 14" SXGA+ display and you start getting down around $2000.

From the discounts that people are getting by calling in, it appears the Sale Reps are giving 20% discounts off the web listed price on the T60s. The amount of money involved is huge for big ticket purchases, but I think you can still get 20% off for the cheaper models.ss2 wrote:I just placed an order over the phone. I ordered 2007-94U.
