Finally ordered a T60

#1 Post by ghanwani » Sun Feb 19, 2006 11:26 am

OK, I've been researching for a while and had settled
on a T43, but was going to be away for a few weeks so
I decided to hold off on placing the order. By the time
I was back the T60's were out, so I started researching
those. I finally settled on the 200768U which has
- 2 GHz Core Duo
- 1 GB RAM
- 100 GB 7200 RPM
- 128 MB ATI
- DVD writer
- 3 year warranty.

It will take a good 6-8 weeks before the machine
shows up.

I wouldn't have found this machine if I didn't know about
tabook so I'm grateful for this forum.

Any tips for things to do when I get the machine to
optimize its performance?

I'm a long time user of a T20 (more than 5 years old!).
It has done well during that time, but the case has now
developed a crack on the right edge near the arrow
keys, but it doesn't look like its causing it to fall apart
or anything just yet.

Thanks,
Anoop

Congrats! Nice machine! I'd be curious (and I'm sure the group as well) to hear your thoughts when you receive the unit...Good luck!

Just ordered the 2007-49U myself, $1273.
1.83 Ghz, 512 MB ram, X1300 graphics, with a 60g 5300 combo drive, no bluetooth, no finger, no verizon.

I forgot to say that mine has bluetooth, Intel ABG, and fingerprint reader.
No Verizon. I debated getting that, but in the end decided I probably
wouldn't use it since the machine is mainly for home use and I hardly
take it with me when I travel.

Wow that's really cool that your neighbor invented the trackpoint (and I mean no disrespect with the rest of this post).

But I must admit when I read that a scene from Austin Powers flashed through my head:

Dr. Evil: The details of my life are quite inconsequential.
Therapist (Carrie Fisher): Oh no, please, please, let's hear about your childhood.
Dr Evil: Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.
Therapist: You know, we have to stop.

People *should not* be messaging you for any discount code whatsoever, period.

I had quite a few guys PM'in me a while back when I mentioned EPP. (ducks and covers because I know one or 2 will come through because of this message)

EDIT: I should mention that people who have the codes don't have unlimited use of them. It is a set number of computers that can be purchased for a given time period, and there is little to no chance that person would have spare slots open if that person also has family members or friends that he wants to share it with.

Perhaps a quick read of the Rules of the Road would help you and others not make this kind of mistake. Discussion of EPP and education programs is prohibited here.

Correct, I found this out, and since then I never mentioned it again. Mostly because of the annoying popups of new messages

Just curious, why prohibited? I understand people shouldn't be handing out codes and stuff like that. But just talking about the programs?

The truth? Because it caused chaos with the juvenile nana-nana-boo-boo-I-got-a-friend-at-IBM-and-you-don't, my-school-gets-better-discounts-than-yours and whining that went on when we did allow the discussions. They're limited programs, and the people who are eligible for them know about them or know where to get the information from their official contacts. There's no discussion here that is relevant.
