temperature of t60p?
temperature of t60p?
hi!
Used to have a t41p then a t43p and am looking at getting a t60p in the near future (ok, buying one, actually getting one is another matter lol) and am wondering how the new models fare with regards temerature. One of the minor irritations with the t43p model was the always on fan (solved with that cool fancontroller program). Does the t60(p) suffer from similar issues?

I don't know if anyone can answer this question in a definitive way at this point, since almost no one has a T60 yet and people certainly haven't had them long enough to develop a body of experience with them.
That said, the T60 has more vents for its fan which should allow it to run cooler and slower. And the Core Duo is supposed to operate a lot cooler.
Here's what the T60 review on NBR says about heat and the fan:
"The T60 is cool running, very cool running in fact. After playing Doom 3 and running 3D benchmark applications the T60 fans didn't even kick in. The back area where the fan and vents are got a bit warm as they pushed the heat out, but certainly not uncomfortably warm or anything. The fact that there's an extra heat vent now on the back where the parallel port used to be probably helps quite a bit to dissipate heat."

I would dispute that. The T43 fan is loud from the moment it's turned on.leif wrote:In fact, some one can't make a detailed review for such a short period of using the laptop.
Doom, regardless of the video settings, is going to crank the heat pretty high. The fact that the reviewer felt heat coming out of the back but didn't hear the fan sounds like a very good indication that Lenovo has gone back to the T42-style (ie quiet) fans.

Don't let this be the final word on things, I'm in touch with Lenovo about this and it may be issues with my pre-production model.
I have a T60 model for review and the fan runs pretty consistently in it. Pretty much everytime I use it, I can hear the fan unless there is a LOT of background noise. Temperatures are decent usually 40-43C idling @ 1GHz. For fun I ran it @ Max Performance and loaded up two instances of Prime95: hit about 68C but the fan noise did not increase.
As someone mentioned NBR's review mentioned no fan noise, leading me to think it is this model. Stay tuned as I hope to have a final answer soon.

Have used just about every ThinkPad since the T42 days...
this user has the EXACT same complaint:fbrdphreak wrote: I have a T60 model for review and the fan runs pretty consistently in it.
