Same thing here, "Dennis" told me that the 8/30 was a mistake and it's about a 1-2 week build process.

I'M HOLDING YOU TO THAT DENNIS! :x  :)

Just got off the phone with lenovo. Sales rep says their is something wrong with the t61's and that the "factory is rejecting them". She says they're working on the problem and that there will be a delay of 2-3 weeks at the minimum. So I'm looking at waiting 2 months to pay more than I was gonna pay for any other laptop I was thinking of purchasing. Good job lenovo...I will be calling to get compensation in some way. What is reasonable to ask for? Free express shipping and $100 off? I'm thinking of cancelling now but what difference would it make. I would have to wait 2-3 weeks to get a computer from dell or hp anyway.

i just talked to lenovo and i was told that the aug ship date is an error in the system and my t61 should ship in a week or so...even then i have waited a month for the laptop...why do they take so long?

On the other hand, for those who have already placed an order, if those do get delayed by another 2-3 weeks, we might get to see the T61p unveil and be in a position to keep our open orders or cancel and order a T61p. :)

lol, they can't even get the t61's out to anyone after a month. I bet if a t61p gets released anytime soon it'll take 4 months to get.

Just saw this today, anybody heard anything? This notice was not there yesterday when I placed my order.

System graphics
Intel GMA X3100 GM965 w/ 1394
Selecting this option may delay your shipment. Call for more information.

says that for the nvidia graphics card, it says that for the pc card slot and media card slot option, and it says that if you choose windows vista home basic.

They as might as well stop taking orders for the computer if they can't ship them out for 2 more month. Start shipping out the notebooks you have orders for and then put the t61 back up on the site.

I ordered mine 3 weeks ago, and by the sound of it, if mine gets shipped out in 2-3 weeks I'd be lucky. If you order one now it'd probably take 5-6 weeks to get it.

Hm, I would really love to talk to Lenovo, but it seems like the hotline is slightly packed this morning. Could you guys all get off the phone so I can cancel my order? ;)

Confirmed Shipping delays for T61

Posted: Tue May 29, 2007 10:12 am

Lenovo must be getting swamped today with calls after the long holiday weekend. I had to hold almost 30 minutes before talking to someone.

Here is the scoop:
There is a bug on the website with the expected delivery dates, but they probably won't be corrected until the notebook actually ships out. Once it ships then the date will change and the tracking information should be there.

Now the BAD NEWS. The sales rep has confirmed there are delays with the T61. Today they received an email from the supply manager confirming there is a delay due to an internal part that was on backorder. They're expecting the part to come in by June 2nd and then laptops will go into production for building them. At the earliest laptops won't ship out until June 4th.

Also some may have noticed certain options are now missing from the Lenovo website. You can no longer configure a T61 with the T7700 processor or with Vista Business 64bit. I inquired about this with the sales rep and he had to do some investigating. After holding another 5 minutes he confirmed that there is a delay in the 64bit OS. It's probably due to compatibility issues since there OS has already been released from Microsoft. The sales rep thought it was because they don't have the 64bit disks to burn the image, but I doubt that. The 64bit OS has been out since January so I think there may be a compatibility issue with the drivers/software. I was given an estimate that the OS will be ready 2nd week of June.

The T7700 processor is on backorder and was confirmed with the supply manager. They're not expecting them to be in stock until the 3rd week in January. This means that a laptop I ordered on May 9th may not get delivered until late June or early July which would mean almost 2 months from my order date. Thats just INSANE.

I actually wanted to get a laptop with the built in camera so the sales rep said he could reorder it and put it on the critical list. Then after realizing there was a backorder on the processor and OS he said he couldn't even reorder the T61 with my original config because the 64bit OS and processor isn't an option anymore.

I know that the website states this clearly in the terms and conditions section, but is it just me or does it seem wrong that Lenovo charges your credit card immediately instead of waiting until the product ships? I realize this is a large dollar purchase and they want to be sure that you have the credit, but when these machines are taking this long to ship, you may have to pay for something that you may not receive for 2 months.

Actually I placed my order on May 9th, but my credit card hasn't been charged yet.

My representative said Lenovo usually only charges your card when the product is leaving the warehouse, which apparently was true in my case.

I just canceled. I still love the T61, but I'm glad, it was also a size to powerful for my needs. In a couple of years, I'll buy it.^^

Interesting... I just checked my credit card online and there is a pending charge from Lenovo. Maybe it is just the credit check and the real charge will come thru later.

can we ask lenovo for some sort of discount for waiting so long?

Hmm.. I paid for my T61 with my Mastercard debit card and Lenovo charged the full amount to my card only minutes after I placed the order.

Well, sorry to all of you waiting for a T61, I don't know what to say about those.

I have been waiting for a T60 ordered on 4/30. Last week the estimated ship date jumped from 5/24 to 6/19. The rep last week said the 15.4" LCD was out of stock, and they expected delivery by the end of the week.

I spoke to a rep again today (37 minutes on hold before getting a rep) and was told that the LCD shipment is expected by 6/2, and the machine should then ship by 6/5.

I don't think they can give you a discount (you could always ask), but I did know two things to ask for: 1) to be put on the critical list, so the build of my machine takes priority over others, and 2) free 2-day shipping. The rep said that he couldn't guarantee either, but would put in a request for both. I guess a manager has to approve the requests.

Looks like the good prices come at a cost! lol hey, look at it this way, you can spend your time waiting but deciding what to replace the T6x with when you finally get it and it's out-dated already!

It seems like we'll all be waiting at least 4-6+ weeks total for our orders to ship : /

On the bright side, we all have the options to

1) cancel our orders at any time
2) return the laptop free-of-charge up to 21 days after it ships (right?)
3) get a price adjustment ( up to how long? same 21 days after shipment?)

Hopefully, all this can mean that we can get our laptops by late june, and be able to price-adjust them to july sale prices. : )

A bit off topic, but just to clarify... Lenovo does an authorization charge (which is temporary) to make sure that you can actually pay for the purchase. This will disappear in a few days (depending on the company); you'll receive the actual charge when the laptop ships.

As far as the delays... June 4th isn't bad. Its certainly better than waiting until AUGUST 29, which is not 2 months in advance, but 3 (for my order, at least). I am very disappointed, especially since this is my first time ordering from them.

Also, I remember reading an article that you can upgrade from 32-bit vista to the 64-bit edition for free, via a free coupon (or something). Does anybody know how valid this is?

Corrupted T61 Order

Posted: Tue May 29, 2007 3:56 pm
by briboynyc
To add more bad news...I requested a change to my configuration and add the web camera since my order was already delayed. Upon making the change my order got corrupted. I asked what that meant and was told anytime a change is made to an order and the original configuration doesn't exist at the time of change the order becomes corrupt. So not only is my laptop order delayed the original configuration I wanted is now corrupt/invalid and a new order can't be requested because the config doesn't exist

The worst shipping handling in the world

Lenovo is the worst E-Business company I've never seen before. The ETA is definitely not acceptable in most of cases. It seems their sales Rep. does not have a proper way to communicate with the production warehouse in China, and their sales Reps. cannot be trusted.
I placed order on 4/29, the ETA was 5/28, then I called them on 5/1 to make some minor changes to my order, I was told the change was made and I would get a confirmation shortly, but ...nothing happened until I call back last week, Monday to Friday, once a day, everytime, I was told by the sales Rep that she/he already submit the change for me, and asked me to call back tomorrow to double check. Yesterday, I found the changed was finally made, but the ETA was changed to 6/11, which is two more weeks waiting time...I got punished by their mistakes.
Their service is the worst in the world!!!
The worst of all, before you enter your credit card information, the website shows 1-2 weeks to ship, after they got your order, the ETA changed to an unacceptable date...

I ordered one month ago, now, with the exactly same configuration, the price already dropped $50, it is not possible to ask "the worst sales team in the world" for price adjustment. But I am going to file a claim to American Express, and use AE 's program to get the difference back.

I went thru the exercise of configuring a Dell D630 last night. It appears that right now Dell is having a sale and a D630 configured similarily to the T61 I ordered is about the same price.

Dell is being more upfront on the estimated shipping date as it said June 21, so it appears that Dell is behind on building the newer machines also.

Has anyone heard of a general parts shortage on the new hardware or is this simply a matter of volume?

American Express has a price guarantee program? Do you have a link with more information?

Thanks!

you can always ask : )

depending on how many calls they get, how serious a problem it seems to be, how serious you are about threatening to cancel your order? and what kind of day the csr / manager is having, you might get something : )

They don't care if I will cancel the order or not, they already got enough orders. I will try again, then tell them I will tell my company to cancel the rest 100 orders, see what they say.

I just spoke to Lenovo customer service regarding the 8/29/07 ESD of my T61. All they could tell me that they currently have supply problems with some parts due to the large number of orders that came in. They said that the actual shipping date will be before 8/29/07 but were not able to give me a more accurate estimate.. they also said that they are currently working on an update of the order status page to display a more accurate ESD. Let's hope this will happen sometime soon.
