Cancelled my order

My order got updated to 6/29 as well. Got an email with no apology or anything.
This is not going to work for me so I called up and cancelled.
The T61 seemed like a good deal back when I ordered it. I don't feel that way any more.
So long, Lenovo.

Hey my 15.4" T60p shipped yesterday too, just before i got the critical list email. I didn't know that I was put on the critical list because I didn't called them, but I did send two nice e-mails, perhaps somebody saw those or I just got lucky that my order was paid attention to. Anybody know what to do about that email? It says to place an X in the boxes, so do we copy over the three lines of choices and actually type a box, or do we just type an X in the quoted area or what? what about just writing out what your choice is...
Anyhow I can see my UPS status now and it looks like it's really shipped... yay!!! (btw ordered may 8th)
Oh and the UPS status says the service type is EXPRESS and expected delivery is TOMORROW? wow. if its anything close to that ill be [censored] happy...
Congratulations.
I wonder why I haven't received my shipping notice yet.... I also ordered a 15.4" T60p. My order was placed 4/30, 9 days before yours. I have seen other posts from people who ordered a 15.4" model after me, and have already had theirs shipped.
btw did you order yours w/ Vista or XP? I ordered XP...I'm hoping that maybe they built a bunch of them (mine included) and they just haven't installed the OS on the XP orders yet....

Yeah, I'm sorry to hear that man, I ordered it with XP Home to save $79 or something like that. Got a 9-cell battery and the 2.0ghz with 1gb 1 dimm ram and the smallest hard drive, as I intend to upgrade the hard drive and ram. Sucks that they have to make you take apart the thing to install ram.
It does appear that Lenovo hasn't been prioritizing orders based on which were placed first. Did you e-mail or call them about placing the order on the critical list and perhaps getting some expedited shipping? If calling hasnt been working, try sending a nice polite email? that's what I did, not sure if that's what did it.
At least it looks like they'll eventually get the orders out in the end if you wait long enough.
edit: Looks like I got the samsung screen and the alps keyboard. Havent seen many people reporting LG screens lately... Anyway i will be perfectly fine with that as long as there's not insane levels of light leakage and several stuck/dead pixels.

I thought that was OK, it moved six days between placing the order and getting the order confirmation.
New ship date:

Now that is just a complete and utter joke. I really dont see why I should wait THREE months for a laptop.

So as you can see just a standard T60p, not a T61 etc.
I have e-mailed Lenovo about this, so I will see what response I get.
This is disappointing because this is the second laptop we have ordered from them, the first is excellent and it shipped early...
I need to order two more but dont know if I should research alternatives...

Interesting. Mine shipped yesterday, too, and it looks like I got the LG screen (FRU 13N7020) and an NMB keyboard for a T61 (FRU 42T3143), even though my machine is a T60.
Edit: To stay on topic, does anybody know if these shipments require a signature for delivery? I had the package delivered to my home address, but nobody's there during the day to sign for a package. I don't want to wait an extra day to receive it because of a signature.

I guess at least I'm not getting the worst one for both the screen and keyboard, eh? although I dont really trust that parts lookup thing. I did sorta want an LG screen though..

No...it was left on my door step, which was good, because their pick up location is about 2 hours from my house... (DHL is in Appleton, WI)

You know, I'd actually rather they require a signature. If if you live in a good neighborhood, the idea of having a box just sitting on your doorstep doesn't seem very safe.

I'm not sure if he's trying to be funny, or actually thinks it's helpful, but my UPS guy always lifts up my door mat and puts it over top of the package. I find it especially interesting when the package is really large... the door mat laying over a 3 or 4 ft. box draws my attention even more than the box by itself.

Looks like Lenovo has published a little more information on this. Some people said their orders shipped too. Looks things are slowly being fixed.

Horray! My T61 is listed as "shipped" on lenovo's site. Guess I won't be getting any free gear : )
Ordered 5/25
It took about 2 1/2 weeks overall, so I guess my order was fine all along.

snippity snip..
Andrew
SnAzBaZ..
it will most likely ship before august..
ibm and now lenovo would always rather promise less and deliver more than vice-versa..
my best GUESS is it will ship before the end of quarter if it is at ALL possible..
unless this is a heavily modified build to order..
which usually delays these things..

R61 ordered on 5/27. Estimated shipping date 6/18. Shipped 6/13. No emails about delays but my original estimate was 8/31. I had to call their CS and make sure it wasn't for real.

Sorry for going back offtopic, but how do you know the make of the FRU IDs? Is there a thread somewhere that lists out who makes each component ID?
Posted: Thu Jun 14, 2007 10:11 am
by cptcoconut
There's no way to get your FRU's until your order has shipped, because you need the serial number.
Go here:
http://www.lenovo.com/think/support/sit ... yle=lenovo
Enter your type # (like 8743) and serial # (should have been in your Electronic Receipt e-mail from Lenovo). That should take you to a page that gives you all the MFG part numbers and FRU part numbers for your machine. There are several threads around here with info on the different FRUs, especially for the keyboards and LCDs, or you can go here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... d=TPAD-FRU
Look up your model, select a parts diagram, and match up your FRU to the ones listed, which do indicate specific manufacturers.
Here's a good thread about the keyboards:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=44310
Here's one about LCD's:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=40808
I think the general consensus is that the LG screen is best, and the NMB keyboard is best.
Oh, and to stay on topic, it looks like my machine has left China. It should be in Louisville today, so I'm really hoping they deliver it tomorrow, but the est. delivery date is still 6/19, so that's probably more likely.

Wow, I must say I'm pretty impressed, got my T60p this morning at 10am and I'm all the way on the east coast. It's very nice but I'm readying to reinstall windows to remove all of this bloatware (it's running 84 processes!)
The screen is perfectly fine in terms of brightness and view angle, no worse than any other laptop screen I've seen. There's a noticeable sparkle but my desktop monitor has that too and I just haven't seen it because I sit 2-3 feet away from my desktop screen. Slight backlight leakage only along the bottom when displaying pure black, completely not noticeable otherwise... Also, the view angle is such that if you are looking at it from more than about 25-30 degrees from perpendicular, it just decreases in brightness. At least it doesn't invert the colors so that you can't even read text anymore or anything, which is what happens on my desktop monitor.
I'm far more worried about how the fan seems to ramp up and stay spinning, I may eventually need to re-do the heat interface compound on the GPU and CPU.
The keyboard is nice. It's not silent but laptop ones are never silent. Has good feel and is way better than the ones on the Dells, that is certain.
I am surprised to find that there are only three USB ports on this thing, it's nice though they put two on the right side of it so I can attach a mouse there.

can someone comment on the usefulness, if any, of the "bloatware" ?
I see threads where people ask how they can *get* the thinkvantage stuff re-installed, so I'm wondering what it does exactly and why someone would want it?
Posted: Thu Jun 14, 2007 12:20 pm
by dc443
Well it's not completely useless, but I dont see the need for most of it. I'd maybe install the hard drive shock detecting thing, the wireless profile configuration thing, and perhaps the battery power management thing.. not much else.
Should I even bother keeping the recovery partition?

rukiri wrote:can someone comment on the usefulness, if any, of the "bloatware" ?
The term "bloatware" would be relative to the user. This software is added, so that many different users will have access to it, for various uses. Not everyone will use ALL of the software, but they make it available nonetheless. You can always uninstall whatever you choose to uninstall.
Also, 80+ process is again relative to the system. Just because they are running doesn't mean that they are actively using your memory or CPU. jdhurst has discussed this MANY times. Do not get wrapped up in the number of processes.

So, I'm sorry for everyone who ordered the T61 and is getting massive delays, but, for my custom T60p Widescren, Lenovo was actually pretty [censored] awesome for me.
The initial estimate was 9 weeks, then they told me that was a bug in the system and it would really be 2-3 weeks, and then it ended up shipping in six days. I am a happy camper.

I may have spoken too soon. Lenovo may have shipped my laptop quickly enough, but according to the UPS tracker, it is shipping to the (non-existent) town of Wellesley, West Virginia, rather than Wellesley, MA, where I live.
God dammit.

Watch your language. While civil discussions of shipping and delivery problems are welcome here, I have no intention of letting this sink to the level of notebookreview or even Lenovo Blogs themselves. Read the Rules of the Road indicated in my sig, and adhere to them.

Apologies. I had read the rules previously, though, and they do seem a bit misleading - they say "we don't really care if people cuss" and that there are only restrictions on "excessive" foul language, but your point is well-taken and I will keep it clean from now on.
Sorry.

are people getting their laptops? I've seen a few people say they received them and this blog has gone quiet for the past few days. As of friday my order still hasnt been rebooked. The funny part is there was nothing wrong with my order. I placed the 2nd order after the "invalid" date window. Lenovo in all their wisdom decided to pull all orders with a system number 7662CTO and rebook them regardless of when the person placed the order. So now I'm more than 5 weeks after placing my order and I still don't have it

I placed an order for T61 on 5/29 and my 7658CTO still has a shipping date of 8/31 (which I have been told is a bug).
Did finally get an email from a rep saying ESD of 6/20 but I'll believe it when I see it.
Any bets?
I just hope I get it before I leave for vacation on 7/13.

My 7662CTO ordered on 5/28 is still showing an ESD of 8/31 but the customer service folks said it would be by the end of the month. I'm going away on business on 7/9, so if it doesn't arrive by then I will be cancelling.
Oh, and I have yet to receive an e-mail from anyone, but I did talk the rep. into adding a free battery. I hope that battery doesn't delay the order unitl 10/31 or something.
