Ok, that's not possible that it runs slower than your Dell. All of these are Centrino processors-not sure why that is a suprise. On the hard drive thing-you do realize that even a brand new, unformatted 160GB drive will not actually show up as 160GB? The reason you aren't seeing 20GB is because of that, plus there is a hidden recovery partition where the factory preload is stored. It is normal to have that bit of hard drive space used on a newer Thinkpad. Be glad you didn't get Vista-you would have even less free space.

Now as far as your slow system speed-left click on the battery maximiser gauge next to the system tray, and select High System Performance. That will make sure your processor is running at it's full speed and not being stepped down via power management. You can also get rid of Norton and go to a less resource hungry antivirus system to help speed things up a bit.

I have a T60p with a T7200 Core 2 Duo CPU (2GHz), 2GB RAM, ATI FireGL 5250, 100GB 7200RPM drive, and Windows XP Pro. It is not slow by any means-in fact, it is very, very fast. Try the things I mentioned, and maybe even do a full recovery using the Thinkvantage button to make sure you have a clean OS image.

Still no status update on the T61p 14.1" SXGA+ I ordered on 8/08-ESD is still showing 8/27. It just seems odd that a number of other people here (and on other forums) ordered almost the exact same unit with the same screen after I did and their orders shipped out within a day or so. Mine is pretty much a basic configuration too.

I wonder-since I placed the order thru EPP if maybe it would be put behind regular consumer orders thru the website-anyone have an idea on that?

So, I ordered a top-seller T61p yesterday (6460-6YU). I was told they were in stock and would ship right away.

Then I received a confirmation email and nothing else. Of course now it is the weekend and I am chewing my fingers here.

The confirmation email didn't have a live link to my order, just a confirmation and a customer number.

How does one track orders with that info, is there a general URL to plug them into? I am in Canada if it makes a difference.

Ordered my 14.1" 4:3 T61p on 8/14 and it shipped 8/18; original ship date was 8/31. I'm now camping in front of my porch....

Ordered my T61p (6460 6XG) on the 23rd of July. Should have shipped 17 Aug, but on the 16th they let me know they need LCD stock and would receive it on the 31 Aug. Then it should sip 3rd Sep. I sit in South Africa, so shipping takes about 7 days and then you wait for customs. I can get an HP 8510w that's almost the exact spec as the T61p, but it has a T7700 CPU instead of the T7500, and also 1x2GB RAM, not 2x1GB, which makes upgrading much easier. The HP is also about R2280 ($325) cheaper than the Lenovo, and I can get it within 1 day.

What should I do. Wait, or get the HP. How is the HP build quality. Is the Lenovo really worth the wait, for lower specs and more expensive. My current notebook has an broken LCD, so I work via external screen. Really crap.

rstander the thinkpad deserves the wait. I would wait a longer time for this piece of excellency... you surely won´t regret, just be patient...

i just talked to UPS , they told me the customs still hold my package.
together with 144 other packages that came from the same source.
my package already got cleared. but they going to release them together.

So, in what will probably be a dumb move on my part, today I ordered another 14.1" SXGA+ T61p with the exact same configuration as the one I placed an order for on 8/08. My ESD on this one is 9/06.

My reason for doing this? Well, so many other people placed the order for theirs days after me and were having them ship out within one to four days of ordering-so I decided to try it myself! It was one of those spur of the moment deals, and maybe-just maybe-one of these orders will ship out soon. I will just call and cancel the one that does not.

I still haven't received the T61p (6459 CTO) with UWB ordered on 7/12. Some of these machines have already shipped, while others have not.

After repeated requests, I was assigned a Lenovo Resolution Owner. I talked with him for the first time yesterday, 8/20. It was a conversation that might be of some interest to other early orderers of T61ps. My RO said my machine is scheduled to ship 9/3. He told me to pay no attention to the Lenovo order status information on their web site, which still shows a revised shipping date of 8/31{why do they even have an order status site?}. I asked him what sort of certainty he would assign to a 9/3 shipping date, and he placed the probability at about 70%. I appreciated his candor. Candor has been in short supply during this attempted transaction. I posed some other questions for him. Here are the answers...
1) He said he didn't know why some machines that are identical to mine have already shipped, although they were ordered later.
2) He said he had been told the parts shortages were caused by vendors not fulfilling their parts contracts on a timely basis.
3) He volunteered that he'd already upgraded my shipping, and would refund $250 off my purchase price. I appreciated the fact he offered these benefits without my having to ask. I don't know whether submission of a claim to the Iowa Attorney General's office had anything to do with it or not.


My last ThinkPad purchase was in 1999. IBM delivered it within days. I was blissfully ignorant of Lenovo's (or Dell's) history of late shipment of newly released, popular, computers until after I ordered mine in July. Now, of course, I would never rely on either firm to deliver a mission critical computer in a time sensitive situation. However, it's important to remember that there are still plenty of potential computer buyers out there who will rely on these firms, unaware that these firms really can't reasonably be relied on, given the recent past. I hope that some entity will investigate whether these chronic behaviors on the part of Lenovo and Dell stem from the intentional misrepresentation of estimated shipping dates, for the purpose of fraudulently inducing buyers to commit to their machines rather than other readily available machines, or whether some of the parts vendors have engaged in similar conduct.

Yea, Drank, I am in the same boat as you. I heard they are having shipments tomorrow, but I don't know how true that is. I think I am going to call tomorrow too. Let me know what you find out though.

My new ESD is 9/24 as well. I did managed to call them today and I first spoke with an Indian guy that assured me that it would ship by the end of this week. Then I got the call escalated to someone else who ended up telling me the exact same thing. I don't trust either of them because I have called 3 times before my ESD to check up on the status and was told by all three that there were not shortages and that my laptop should ship on or before the ESD. Also I see alot of posts from people who have ordered 7/12 and 7/11 who still have not has theirs shipped. In any case, if it doesn't ship by tomorrow which is the end of the working week I will start considering other options. Let me know what they tell you when you call.

P.S. He wouldn't even upgrade my shipping.

The one I ordered on July 12th and canceled on July 26th arrived on August 13th (built on August 10, although the order status page showed it as canceled from August 1st on. Lenovo had UPS pick that one up. It was the same machine as the current order except I lowered the ordered RAM to supplement with aftermarket ram.

Barry, they don't charge you until they have shipped. They do place a hold on your credit card though when you ordered, but yea don't hold your breath for them to ship it.

t61P ship date pushed till end of sept on july order.

After waiting on the phone for an excessive period of time, i was able to talk to someone at Lenovo finally this week. The confirmed that my order of 7/22 would be shipping and was "in process" He said that he could see that it would release and month long "in process" was cleared. I would see the UPS tracking number.

I received notification that my order was pushed till 9/25. Just got the email a day after my unit was suppose to ship.

This is also the second unit I have ordered after returning a T60P that arrived with a broken keyboard, warped frame that would not sit flat and a vista wireless driver that would not work at 100%.

Defective Units, endless phone wait times no matter what option you push, Poor quality and dates being pushed.

Is it possible that they underpriced some of the units sold and are waiting till the forward pricing gets in line so they do not take a bath on the discounting offered.
