My screen is identified as 42T0408 and as 42X3997.
How do I find out which manufacturer these refer to?

My warranty is listed as "3 year" but I purchased "4 year with 4 year ThinkPad protection." When is this updated?

Dr. Wohl,

FRU 42T0360 = LG-Philips: LP154WU1-TLB1
FRU 42T0408 = Samsung: LTN154U2-L05

These are not published by Lenovo but are based on strong anectodal evidence.

How do you like the screen? How does it compare to the Z61p that you had briefly earlier this year?

Too early to tell. I'm running it side by side with an R50p with a UXGA IPS 1600x1200 screen and the T61p looks okay. It is easy to see that neither the vertical nor the horizontal viewing angles are as great as the UXGA IPS, but it is fine for my work.

I can't tell any difference from the Z61p's screen. It is SO MUCH THINNER than the Z61p.

I am very pleased so far.

those should be the other way around; 42T0408 is samsung.   i can confirm this, too, because i have one in my T61p. ;)

so whats the final word? which one is better? Samsung or LG-Philips?

btw, my order also shipped with 42T0408.

until someone comes up with side-by-side photos of the samsung and LG WUXGA panels, i'll stick to my guns and say that it's a complete wash.   besides some minor light leakage at the bottom (which i've read they both have), i can't find anything to complain about with the samsung panel.   the extra real estate over my former T42p's 15" IPS UXGA panel far outweighs the whole IPS vs. non-IPS debate (for me, anyway).

speaking of which, it's not an IPS display and should not be compared/judged as such.   if you compare a 6-bit IPS notebook panel to an 8-bit IPS desktop panel, the beloved notebook panels that everyone raves about would look equally as crappy.   it's all relative. ;)

everyone complains about viewing angles, brightness, light leakage, etc. but the fact of the matter is that if display quality was that important then an external display should be mandatory.   as the saying goes, "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch."   until we have LED/OLED displays capable of 110% gamut, we have to live with what's available. :)

Hello - I have question about shiping - they are saying on website that shiping of t61 with 14'' sxga+ screen should be shipped in 1 - 2 weeks - my question is - how many times they are crossing that term ? I will be in usa for 3 weeks and I am little bit scared if they will reach this time - I dont want to leave states without my t61 :( ...

You should download PC wizard 2007 and test it.

I bought a T61p on 9/12 and it just shipped today (9/19) with a scheduled delivery date of 9/26

T61p
Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz
15.4 WSXGA+ TFT
3GB RAM
NVidia Quad FX 570M
DVD recorder
Vista Business 32-bit
Bluetooth
Fingerprint scanner
1GB Turbo memory
9-cell battery
Advanced Ultrabay battery

For what it's worth, I got the Turbo memory even with the problems I've read about on the 'net because I'm hoping that Intel fixes its drivers and Microsoft has better support in SP1.

[9/25]
I guess Lenovo didn't get the customs paperwork straight and I'm scheduled to get my machine on 9/27

Everything got through customs yesterday and I have it powered up on my desk right now. The rest of the day is shot - no way I'm getting any real work done. :)

definitely.   hardware calibration makes a huge improvement.   i'd recommend an eye-one display 2.   they can be found for about $180~190.   i use an eye-one photo for about 8x the price but the end result is the same. ;)

hardware calibration results will vary with ambient lighting.   if you calibrate a monitor in the morning with sunlight as your source then turn on fluorescent lights in the evening, your screen will look reddish.

if i'm doing press work or color proofing then i will re-calibrate prior to working.   my eye-one grabs ambient light and will adjust accordingly and on the fly.   i don't know if the lower models will do this.

anyway, this is probably best saved for a new thread.   we're way off-topic here.

I'm currently looking at getting a similar system... now seems like a good time to do so with the 25% off plus and extra 20% w/code. I hope that the shipping is somewhat fast.

I configured a T61p earlier today that was similar to the one you ordered. I'm sure that you know about the sale going on right now, 25% off Thinkpads, but I also used the code USPANNIVERSARY and got an extra 20%. I havent ordered yet but I will soon. I just wanted to make sure that i wasnt missing any other deals.

I did the same thing just now, except I got an even further discount using the Visa portal (http://www.lenovo.com/shop/deals/visa). However, I found that the USPANNIVERSARY eCoupon didn't work, but USXANNIVERSARY does.

Now seems like a good time to buy (Visa Discount + 25% Anniversary Discount + eCoupon Discount = HUGE SAVINGS!!)

Wow, I hate Lenovo's pricing schemes. The USPANNIVERSARY code doesn't work in the Visa store. So it's cheaper to use the code than the Visa discount. So I canceled my order and placed a new one with the code and without Visa discount. Saved me $70. I ordered on Oct 3 with an estimated ship date of Oct 22. HOWEVER, the code USXANNIVERSARY does work in the Visa store. Doing that would save me $50 more. I don't think I'm going to cancel this one and reorder, because the delay in shipment is just too big.

But yeah, if you want to order, the time is now. Like, today. With the sale, Visa discount, and USXANNIVERSARY, you can save $1,091.46 off list. That means a fully loaded 14.1" t61p (T7700, 3GB, a/g/n, bluetooth, fingerprint reader, 9 cell, dvdrw, vista ultimate, turbo memory, 4 year warranty) runs just under $2,100. That's a steal.

Yeah, I plan on reinstalling the 64bit version. I already have an MSDN licence for Ultimate, but i'm curious to know if the version of Ultimate you get from Lenovo includes both 32 and 64bit versions?

Guys - if anyone has some insight, I would like to hear your views.

I am thinking about getting a new T61 and gifting my T42 to the wife. When I configured a system 3 weeks ago, I could spec out a 2.6 GHz CPU. Now, I only see 2.4 as the fastest - ok, no big deal. I can still get WUXGA as of 2 days ago. Now when I go to build one, the best I can get is WSXGA+ (still a great resolution). Are there just part constraints that are making them adjust the order system all the time, or have there been other problems I should know about, i.e., to steer me to getting a WSXGA+ and not going b@lls-out for the top-of-the-line specs?

Thanks for the help.... I wish I could contribute here more frequently... this forum has & continues to be such an awesome group on the 'net for us TPad folks....

EDIT: Just saw this thread:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=50517

Sorry... missed that one while scanning the thread titles.... so, should I phone in an order in order to get the special EPP pricing and discounts currently offered, plus spec out WUXGA and the 2.6 CPU? Seems like the online system has it's limitations....

Hi all, i was wandering if you can give me some insight on the Lenovo Thinkpad build speed.

I'm a student at U of MN. I spilled coffee on my two years old ibook, four days into school. :banghead: So.... I was in the market for a new laptop. My dad showed me his Thinkpad T61 from work and it was AWESOME! I especially like the feature of drain holes!

I had to scrap some money to getter and a little forever loan from the old man, but I got enough to purchase the computer on Sept 26th.

However, it still haven't be shipped yet. I don't have another computer! I can only do so much with the school PC labs.

I had a Dell and Apple before this, and they ship within the work week.... The estimated shipping date is Oct 15th. I thought it was just lenovo being "safe"? That's before I came accross this forum....

So... do you think Lenovo will take till Oct 15th? :-( Do I have another week or so for it to ship, and then perhaps another week or so for it to be delivered?

Yes. If you don't like it, I'll buy it. :-)

I LOVE my Vista Ultimate T61p with WUXGA 2.4 gb 7K200 drive. Turning off some of Vista's eye candy really makes it go.

If there were IPS WUXGA screens, I'd like one, but, for my work, the WUXGA non-Flexview is essentially equivalent to the UXGA Flexview I use every day on my R50p.
