I would be careful doing that as most carriers don't allow phone as modem unless you have that option and it is different then having unlimited data. I did that with my Treo when I was with Verizon and got away with it for the first few months. Then I received a letter threatening termination of service, if I continued to use my PAM without the plan. I was lucky I heard some have been billed for the data a $.02 a single KB. There bills have been in the thousands.

Thanks
i don't know if you got a good deal..
looks ok to me, though..
it probably does not take that long to build and ship..
usually, these come from hong kong and even UPS ground will actually be express and arrive the next day after shipping..
occasionally theyn arrive the same day because of dateline stuff..
surprised that h/p support is that bad..
i had a bad toner cartridge in a printer and they were there on time and in full..
(mixing metaphors here)
and i got two phone calls asking if things had gone right..
lenovo, like ibm in the past, tend to under promise and over deliver..
this does not ALWAYS hold if there is a shortage on some critical part..
which is why i like to order pre-build thinkpads..

I specifically discussed this with Verizon before doing it - it's a $15 monthly charge to use the Blackberry as a wireless modem. When you have a Blackberry, you pay a ~$45 per month fee for the unlimited data service that covers the data for the Blackberry.
I first asked if, since I was paying for unlimited data, I could buy an EVDO modem and use it w/o additional charge. Verizon told me no, I'd have to pay for another 'line' BUT for the $15 a month, I could use the Blackberry as a wireless phone modem.
I only get a 115k out of it, but it is very handy to have when you're not near a free hotspot and need internet access.

Spoke to customer service yesterday to see if I could delete the DVD burner and switch to normal dvd drive to bring shipping date forward, seems they are now in stock and was told my actual shipping date should be 10/31/07, except for the additional battery ordered (9-cell) which is out of stock, but will ship separately (maybe early January). SO glad I ordered the actual unit with the 6-cell!
So, fingers crossed for the 31st October shipping date!
Just checked my oder, was shipped on 28th October, due for actual delivery on 30th!
Nice. Also seems like 2 packages shipped, maybe battery now in stock?

I should have mentioned that Verizon has specific software (VZAcess Manager by Smith Micro Software, Inc.) that you download in order to make this work. You also have to make sure your Blackberry has the appropriate capabilities - mine is an older one that needed a (free) update.
VZ Access Manager will work with other similar devices or with any appropriately EVDO capable and enabled Verizon phone. You should check with Verizon at
http://vzw.smithmicro.com/download/supported.aspx.
It works cabled to the laptop or, in theory, connected by bluetooth. So far, that's where I've not been able to get it to work.

I think I have close to the ultimate Thinkpad T61p on its way....ordered on 10/5 and it was originally given an 11/21 shipdate due to constraints on the 15.4" LCD.... It appears it shipped on 10/24 and scheduled to me delivered tomorrow, 10/30.

I think the timing was perfect too...got the 25% anniversary deal, plus employee discount.
I was actually calling Lenovo last week to see about changing the order to Windows Vista Ultimate, but it was too late...it shipped. I hope that I made the right decisions to stick with XP Pro and the 15.4" WUXGA LCD.
The only reason for upgrade from my T43p is that my 100GB HDD is at 93GB used. Hopefully the 200GB HDD will last more than 1 year.
Any thoughts on user experiences with the LCD or good reasons to avoid Vista?

i'm a college student with a broken T42 (and i remember that machine shipped rather quickly), so i just sent a few complaints.
i caannnn't wait that long

:(
Shipped: October 28, 2007
Received: today (November 1, 2007)
It's booting up right now, so I really don't have much to say in terms of first impressions. I'm pretty excited, so hopefully all will go well. Two things I found unusual: (1) My thinkpad has the thinkpad (not the IBM) logo. This confused me, since I thought IBM logos were staying on thinkpads until 2008. Also, I am a student, not a business user. (2) Headphone port is in the front. I thought this had been moved to the side in later models?
Okay, I'm going to go play now before class!

1. Only those consumers will get IBM logo as of this moment who would buy their machines without any special exception of SPP, lenovo EPP, stockholder, IBM EPP, LGS EPP, BCS EPP and IGS EPP discounts.
2. Except 14.1 WS all have on the left end.

I ordered and received my T61 within two weeks. It took one week to build and then 4 days to get here from China. The shipping was expedited and held up for about 12 hours in customs.
The expected shipping time was around three weeks to one month. Good job Lenovo!
My laptop has arrived!

WOW! Going by the messages in this thread, I think my order is a first of its kind.
Ordered: 10/31
Shipped: 11/01
Delivered: 11/05
Just 3 business days to process, assemble and ship - despite mine being a customized one.
If not for the customs delay, I would have got mine by 11/03!!!
Can't wait to go home and mess around with my new T61. I hope they haven't sent me the wrong laptop (config) in a hurry

Quite happy with my T61. Have tried out all the features except burning a CD/DVD.
For some reason, I find the startup a little slow - almost 1.5 minutes. But once its up, its quite fast. No complaints for now. Lets see how it works once I install all my 3rd party s/w on it.

Hello !
I've ordered a T61P from a swiss reseller, on the 5th of september. It is the 6457-5GG /POS/NH05GMZ ( 2.4GHz 2Duo 2G RAM + 1G Turbo Memory 100HD 15.4'' (1920*1200) DVDRW).
It's been more than 9 weeks now and the expected delivery is mid-december. They say it's because of a shortage of high res. screens.
It seems faster to hop on a plane and order it from the US

Ordered on 11/13
Got a email today confirms the shipment
So they only spend two days to build to system. I guess it's because mine is almost a standard option. Anyway,I'm impressed by their improvement they are making compared to some opinions found in the forums
I ordered a T42 about 2 years ago, and it took me over one month to have my laptop.

Ordered 11/14/07, shipped 11/16/07. Can't complain too much about that. Originally it was showing an estimated ship date of 12/3.
Just FYI - NewEgg has a 2GB SODIMM for this laptop right now for $60 with free shipping (

I have my ShaggyMac Keyboard cover on its way. CostCentral has the 65W adapters for $28 with free shipping.
