So I ordered a T61p last night. It's showing end of march on the Lenovo site.

I'm not clear: does calling magically make it ship faster or do the phone people have better information than the web site?
hey,

Well, according to "Afty"'s experience, I should have mine tomorrow!!! NOT!

seriously, I don't think calling makes any difference. Mine was "in production" the next day.

Ordered CTO: 2/20/2008 at 11PM
Lenovo estimated ship date: End of March
Shipped: 2/23/2008
UPS estimated delivery date: 2/29/2008
Received: 2/28/2008 at 2PM

T61p 14.1"
2.4 GHz 3MB L2
1x1GB RAM
UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) with Fingerprint Reader
80GB HDD
8X DVD Burner
PC Card Slot & Express Card Slot
Intel AGN
9 Cell Li-Ion Battery
Vista Basic

It was held by Brokerage beyond UPS' control on the 2/27/2008 and was released either the same day or next day and it was on its way.

I am thoroughly impressed with the system. I <3 it so much.

I forgot to mention that I chose the free shipping (5-7 days).

Still amazes me that US customers that order CTO's have their systems built and shipped within 2-3 days and in their hands within a week!

Ordered a T61 on Feb 28 (same as CanadianNorth), haven't called Lenovo to check status cuz I don't want to jinx anything. :D

Bah - the computer comes when it comes... I like surprises (but only good ones).

It was a custom order, but a pretty straightforward one. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense. Assuming they come from the same factories... How US orders can take less than a week, and Canadian orders 3-4 +++?

All the same, I'm not complaining that much.

8891CT : T61p, T9300, Vista Business 64 (planning to downgrade to XP), 14.1 SXGA+, 100GB 7200RPM HDD, 1GB memory

Ordered: 3/2/08
Original est. ship date: 3/20/08
Shipped: today, 3/5/08

I opted for the free 5-7 day UPS shipping. We'll see what the estimated delivery date looks like tomorrow morning.

I'm very pleased with how fast this order was handled!

another Canuck here...

just ordered (March 3) a T61. very anxious about receiving it, I'm ready to move on to a new laptop.

i'm prepared to wait the full four weeks if necessary, but i agree with CanadianNorth and icantux -- wtf is with the wait? What is NAFTA good for anyway?

NAFTA is in fact no good in this case since your machine ships from Asia and not from within North America.

I'm not a politician, but I think it's Free Trade anyway, not 'speedy' trade!! (just be glad it's not a softwood lumber laptop :-0 )

All the same, as I said before, it doesn't make sense that one company can supposedly produce the same laptop in one place, but take two weeks to make one and two days to make another.

Vilaia's laptop took 3 days to ship, mine has been 7 and they have "no idea" when it will be ready.

yeah the NAFTA quip was a joke and a semi-reference to the whole Clinton-Obama thing... still, it's almost weirder that the machine is shipping from an Asian manufacturing source; I can't figure out why there would be such a disparity in ship times. Canadian customs, at least in my experience, aren't any slower at processing goods than they are in the US.

Any more theories?

Could be something to do with the other end not receiving order details in a timely manner to start building up your machine.

You asked for a theory, that was mine.

You know I walk into a crowded room and I think everyone knows I have a T61 and they are all going to rush up and hug me and shake my hand, but nothing happens! It hasn't changed my life like I thought it would. Oh well. I'm busy working on a strap/harness I can use to hook my T61 to my forehead. That should help. . . . . .

All kidding aside, finally, a laptop I can trust. Took me 5 years to come around, but I'm here now.

when you get that forehead strap done I'll buy one off you.

I called LeNO-GO today. They said my order was being built (i.e. they had a guy out at the mine looking to get some copper to make some wires). Ordered on the 28th of Feb. it will be 'built' on the 16th or March.
The guy told me it will take 6 days to get to Canada from 'overseas'. At which time it will go to their distribution center and then get sent out UPS.
So I'm looking at March 28th or so.

I really wouldn't care , if it wasn't for the fact that if had a US address I would have it in 5 days, not 30.

hahaha

Truth be told, I ordered on February 27, it will be delivered tomorrow, March 10(monday) according to UPS. They had it at the Portland (my city) depot on Friday and could have delivered it on Saturday. So much for "2-day shipping". So that is 12 days, but I started this jouney about 4 days before that when they triple charged my credit card. So, 16 days, it looks like.

I'm just going to put the box over in the corner. And wait until I have 4 days to install and configure all my software. Someday I might even use it!! hahaha

My old Compaq Presario is going to make an excellent door stop. Won't be overheating down there close to the floor. . . . .

Canadian shipments (thinkpads) travel by ship from China to Canada, offloaded in Vancouver checked by "customs" then shipped to the Toronto area from where they send the system to you by UPS... The journey from factory to you takes 2 weeks.

From what I've read elsewhere, you'll know the laptop is shipped from China and on its way over when you get an e-mail from Lenovo that contains the system specs - also Lenovo then charges your card (if you opted for credit card purchase).

Then the agonizing 2 week wait for "ship"ping. Imagine if the lappy missed the boat?

Mine was shipped from China to Hong Kong to Alaska to California and now it's sitting at the Portland, Oregon depot waiting for the delivery guy to bring it out to my house where I won't be but there are instructions to give it to the 94-year-old lady across the street.

I don't think this has already been posted (although a 2nd time wouldn't harm). All Canadians should have a deep look at this article from Digital Journal: Lenovo Still Suffering From Faulty Order System, Causing Lengthy Delays

We are not just talking about shipping delays here, but about much deeper issues.

My personal situation in short:

I ordered on Feb. 29
I still do not have any itemised costing (sub-totals, discount, taxes) for what I have ordered.
My credit card has been charged three times for items I never received an invoice for.
I don't know when the machines will be shipped.
I don't know if I'll be able to register in time the warranty I've already been billed for, without having the machines in my hands yet.

I have talked with 5 Lenovo employees so far and I can only say they are much better at throwing the ball in s/o else's yard than at resolving issues.

Communication is now restricted to e-mail only.

yeah, my, er, Canadian nightmare is basically just getting underway over here.

here's what happened:

I ordered a T61, pretty standard config with the 140m, on the 3rd of March, using the online store. I receieved email confirmation that my order had been placed.

I was prepared for a 3 week wait, so I didn't call in to check on things until this Monday. I was told that the machine had been assembled and was about to ship from China. The rep told me to call back on Thursday just to confirm.

So I called back today and learned that THE ORDER HADN'T EVEN BEEN PLACED YET!!!

They apologized and credited me 100 bucks, and have told me they're expediting the process now... but wow, I sure hope the build quality and functionality of my T61 is better than the service Lenovo's offered so far...

WTF is up with Lenovo Canada?

Hooray!

Got my Thinkpad T61 this afternoon! :D

Originally ordered it on Feb 28, received confirmation on the 29th, shipped on the 15th of March and I was expecting a long-ish wait for final delivery (expected the delivery next week sometime). But UPS guy showed up late this afternoon with a nice little box, so here we are. In all, it took 3 weeks from order to delivery.

My specs:
T61 - T9300
14" std - NVS 140M
3GB RAM
Bluetooth, Fingerprint
DVD-RW (DVD-RAM)
80GB hdd (yanked that out - replaced with 200GB 7200)
Vista Bus x86

Already installed XP on it (can't handle Vista yet!) and time to put on BSD and Fedora.

Ok, I got T61 slimmed down with a skinny XP install. Whew, what a journey but it sure feels clean and squeaky and fast. Here is a thread with my journey:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthr ... ost3144764

So, the date I recieved the Thinkpad and the date that I actually got it cleaned are very different.

Also, I saw somewhere in this forum people posting performance tests. They usually consisted of about 5 test with values between 4 and 5. Can anyone tell me where on my computer this is done?

Also, maybe I don't have all the ThinkAdvantage stuff now on my computer, but System Updates from Lenovo allows me to add it all or pieces of it sometime in the future.

Posted: Sun Mar 23, 2008 1:21 pm
by CognitoPadErgoSum
I also ordered the Belkin router option when I ordered the Thinkpad. They sent that right away. It sure is a sweet device. They didn't pull any punches, just included the biggest fastest Belkin (model N) that is made. All the old ladies in the condos next to me can have free wireless now hahaha.

My old Compaq is hooked up with a RJ-45 wire, my new T61 with the WiFi card. Almost too easy. Also, was able to create shares on my T61 and map to them from the Compaq using the T61's IP address so now all my files can be easily transferred. All that leaves is my 50 pounds of software applications to re-install. (and yes, I have firewalls on everything).

Kerios is the easiest firewall I've ever owned. I just double clicked on the exe I moved over and it started asking me everytime something tried to communicate in or out. They got bought out and probably the new one works just as good but I am using the freeware one,
just google for: kerio-pf-2.1.5-en-win.exe

So. . . .
Lenovo is shipping pretty quick, bloatware that comes on them is a bane, Lenovo System Updates really helps when doing a skinny install of the OS.

And thanks to Bill Thinkpad, the owner/moderator, for this great no-nonsense forum. Now off to figure out how to let the world know I belong! I Thinkpad Therefore I Am! heh pass the Thorazine

1 week (wow!)

Ordered March 17; received early morning March 24 (US residential address). I selected the "free" shipping. Glad I didn't pay extra for more... this was still in Hong Kong on the 20th!

T61p, 6459CTO... 9300 CPU, 4GB RAM, Intel a/b/g/n, flash memory, UWB... basically everything except cell-phone networking, UWXGA (eyes aren't that good!) or the encrypted HDD.

Just starting a run of 3DMark06 to see what happens with that reported overheating issue... I'll post in the appropriate forum either way.
